I am Creative
It has taken me forty years to be able to say that I am creative and it still doesn’t come easy. The words feel wrong in my mouth and look wrong on screen, but I’m beginning to come to terms with the fact that it’s true – and what that means for me.

Blue Fountain from Pixie Hollow
I am NOT artistic.
I have no sense for colour or for patterns, no ability to draw or paint or sculpt or anything like that.
I’m not even a detail person. As long as something is good enough, that’s good enough for m...

Put your Powder and Lipstick on: Advice for home workers and home makers alike
Scrolling through Facebook, I came across this interesting piece of advice taken from a Singer Sewing Machine manual which was published in 1949.
Most people commenting on it were either shocked at its sexist nature or were ridiculing the advice it gave. Whoever puts on their powder and lipstick and does their hair just so they can sit down and sew?
The problem these people had though was that they couldn’t see past the cultural aspects of the advice to see the excellent advice that the piece...

The Day I Discovered that Bryan Allain is Human
Did you know that everyone is human? Even the rich, the famous, the confident, the beautiful and the successful people?
I did.
At least, I knew it in my head… but not in my heart.
Somehow, I always believed deep-down that the people we look up to, the people we aspire to be, somehow have it easier than us, are superhuman or just don’t have the same struggles as us.
It’s not true.
Bryan Allain was someone I knew only through the internet. I had never met him in real life (until the first time...

Always be Prepared….
Are you always ready and prepared? What do you do when thrown into a potentially profitable situation?
We know a young lady who loves to write and perform music. Her name is Kalei.
Her brother spent this summer interning at a radio station and on his last day of work, he took Kalei with him to the station to show her around. While they were there, he happened to mention to one of the DJ’s that his sister writes songs and the DJ immediately said, “Let’s put one on and blast it!”
He looked up...

Surprise! You Have a New Book Out
My latest book,The Basics of a Hosting Business on Amazon.com hit the shelves yesterday… and I had no idea!
Around midnight on Friday night I was taking a quick jaunt through my Facebook feed and came across something that totally surprised me – my name on the cover of a new book!
Now don’t get me wrong, I knew I’d written the book, you can’t write 14,000 words without noticing it. What I didn’t know though was that it was coming out NOW – and that I’d be given writing credit.
The Basics of...

Do You Fit the Stereotype?
We all have a choice – to either fit in with a stereotype or to redefine the stereotype. Which do you choose – and which would you RATHER choose?
Meet Garin Harris.
Garin is a teenager just about to become a senior in high school and as such, Garin has the opportunity to fit neatly into the teenage stereotype.
She could be moody and disrespectful, sullen, rebellious and lazy. She could be a disappointmentto her parents and teachers and could make everyone who sees her despair for the future...

Calculating your Value
The big question always is, “How much do I charge?” and way too many of us end up undercharging because we don’t know or believe in our value. Here’s how to figure it out.
This post is a continuation of the series on charging your clients the right amount and adding perceived value.
This is not about trying to figure out the value of a human being. We’re priceless. End of story.
Instead, the question here is one of how much do I charge for the product I produce, especially if most of the cost is...

Increasing Perceived Value
Perceived value is created not just by the price that is charged for something, but by a number of other factors, too.
In my previous post, I wrote about what perceived value is and how important it is to believe in your product’s value. HOW you portray that belief to others is very important, it’s not just writing a figure on a price tag, you need to create an impression of value which lives up to the monetary figure you are quoting.
For example
I’ll use the example of the photo stall I set up...

Understanding Perceived Value
How much value someone places on your work depends a lot on how much value you place on your own work – and how you portray that value.
Last weekend, I took my artwork to an arts fair for the first time, to dip my toes in the waters of selling some of my photographs.
The biggest question on my mind as I was preparing for the eventwas “How much do I sell my photo’s for?”
So I did some research into the prices people charge for their prints and came across a psychological idea I have never really...
