New review of LAKE CHARLES
Bill Crider, has posted a favorable review of my new thriller, Lake Charles, at his weblog, Bill Crider's Pop Culture Magazine. Bill is a top-notch writer in the western and crime fiction genres, including the Sheriff Dan Rhodes series. His thumbs up means a lot to me. You can read all about it right here:

Mama Jo Has Her First Say
Howdy, all.
Mama Jo Fishback here. Ed asked me to say a few words here as his guest blogger. First off, he's from the Lynskey clan, shadow cousins of ours up in Virginia. Beings as he likes to write stuff down, he penned a volume on me and my folks called Lake Charles.
I've read it. Most of it is true. He took a few liberties, but I love him just the same. Yeah, the kids did drive up there. I warned them against it. But grown kids don't listen any better than the young ones, do they?
I won't rehash the bad things that went on at Lake Charles. You can get all that from Ed's book. I'm relieved it's all done, and I can get back to canning my jam. But getting back to Ed. He's the shy sort, hiding his talent inside of a crocus sack. That attitude won't do, no sir. He's got plenty to say, his voice strong.
Since the yarn is on me, you just know it's a cracking good one. Trust me on this. At any rate, I can hear the mail truck leaving, and I better get along now.
I'll be dropping in from time to time, so until later, be well and good.

The salt water noirs of the great Charles Williams
"One ongoing friendly debate hashed among fans of Charles Williams’ suspense books (20, plus three comedies) pits the author’s land novels against his seafaring titles as representative of his best writing. He was, of course, adept at handling either, sea or land, and at least one novel, Man on a Leash (1973), draws on both to propel the narrative..."

The final novel by the noirmeister Charles Williams
"True story. In Summer 2002, I checked out the only Charles Williams novel found in my public library’s holdings, Man on a Leash. Some months later, I went back to recheck it out. No soap. The book (Williams’ final novel) had been taken out of circulation. An ex libris. Well, well. This anecdote illustrates to me how Charles William’s oeuvre has fast disappeared from today’s crime fiction radar. However, his fine works hardly deserve returning to their pulp origins in the form of recycled paper..."

You Think Your Day Is Bad, Check Out My Guy
Brendan Fishback in my new suspense thriller Lake Charles is a nineteen-year-old pressman living in Umpire, Tennessee. The big landmark there is the Great Smoky Mountains. If you've ever been there, then you'll know how breathtaking the views from the outlooks are.
All is not well in Brendan's neck of the woods. He's on the hook for a murder he didn't commit. His twin sister Edna soon disappears while they're fishing and boating on Lake Charles. Cobb, Brendan's best pal, suggests they camp over night at Lake Charles. Daybreak will find them searching high and low in the boonies for Edna.
Brendan, just a regular guy like you and me, has to pick up his game and deal with a lot of bad stuff hitting him from all sides. Of course he has to call on his friends for a little help.
Enter Jeremiah Wheeler, Cobb's father who is an ex-CIA and Army vet. Reviewers have said Jeremiah kicks some major ass and gives no quarter throughout the second half of Lake Charles. He gets Brendan's back when they run into a drug cartel operating in the area.
I like stories where a friend lends a helping hand to a character up to his eyeballs in trouble. Brendan is just that way. And my setting of the vivid Great Smoky Mountains is icing on the cake.
