Cover for Lake Charles, my thriller due out June '11.
The final cover art of my LAKE CHARLES thriller due out in June 2011 has arrived. Please give it a peek by clicking through the link given below.
Cover for LAKE CHARLES by Ed Lynskey
This post will cover for this Friday's blog for me. I'll be eyeball deep in doing the proofs on LAKE CHARLES.
LAKE CHARLES is set during the 1970s (yes, the pre-cell phone days, remember?) in the Great Smoky Mountains, if there are any other fans of that picturesque region. A young man goes on a fishing trip with his sister and best friend. She ends up being kidnapped, and he runs into a double buzz saw when he strikes out to find her.
There's romance, too, good and bad, so there's something for everybody.
Have a great weekend.

Catching My Signs of Spring
This morning I tweeted (don't you love using that cool verb?):
A few signs of spring: the crocuses are out, the forsythia is budding, the snow melt is done, and the Nats lost to the Mets yesterday.
Did I leave out anything? A few rituals are impending. Sharpen the lawnmower blade. Prune the deadwood azaleas. Rake last autumn's leaves. Does this sound familiar to you? I'm not complaining, at all. Bring on the sun and its warmth.
On the Book Reading Challenge front, I'm 19/65. Not too shabby, I suppose. Right now I'm halfway done with Julia Spencer-Fleming's ALL MORTAL FLESH. It's an enjoyable read, thus far.
Some plugs...
Rob is doing a book giveaway for QUIET ANCHORAGE here on Goodreads, if you take your mysteries cozy and small town.
Oh, I saw LAKE CHARLES, my own romantic suspense book, just went up for pre-sales on Barnes & Noble. LAKE CHARLES is being offered at 33% off. You can't beat that with a stick.

Lake Charles: Two Early Reviews Are In
Two early reviews of my new thriller Lake Charles arrived this week:
“This riveting noir sucks the reader into its murky depths till goose bumps form—even interspersed with the sultry and sticky description of the southern locale. The taste of corruption is sure to whet the appetite of suspense and thriller aficionados, and the local vernacular is right on target.”
-Nancy Carty Lepri, New York Journal of Books
"Lynskey gives his character redemption even as his experience matures him and develops character that can’t be taught in school. LAKE CHARLES is chilling and addictive.”
-Shelley Glodowski, Midwest Book Review

My Main Character Can't Help Falling in Love
After the plot in Lake Charles heats up with the mayhem, ambushes, and betrayals expected of a modern thriller, Brendan finds his attention to romance temporarily diverted by other things, you know, like staying alive and out of prison.
But as we all know, romance can blossom at the most unlikely times. During the third act, Brendan is surprised when the mushy feelings inside him start to churn again. A striking young lady has caught his eye, and despite all the strife raging around him, he’s learned these chances at tapping love don’t come up often. He’d better act on his feelings and find out if she's Miss Right before it’s too late.
Readers of Lake Charles identify with that sentiment, too. They will come to like Brendan and root for his falling in love again.

What Sort of an Author Name Stands Out?
I'm not certain if my surname LYNSKEY sticks out in readers' minds. I do know it gets all variations of misspellings: LYNSKY, LINSKY, LINSKI, LYNSKI, etc. A few folk have difficulty in pronouncing Lynskey although it's spoken just as you see it: LYN-SKEY.
When I started out writing fiction, I toyed with the notion of using a jazzed up nom de plume. I drew up several short lists, but none of the choices sparked and caught fire in me. I pretty much decided changing my name wouldn't have too much impact on my sales. After all, readers pay for a well-told story, not a pen name.
When I brought out my small town cozy mystery Quiet Anchorage last year, I faced the quandary of whether to put my cosies under their own pen name. In the end, for better or worse, I opted to retain my own name. At this stage in the game, I rather like it.
Happy reading to you and yours!

My Current Work-In-Progress: But Will It Fly?
Today I reached the halfway point in my current work-in-progress. I'm engaged in the rounds of edits after my new novel has "cured" for a year. In other words, I haven't thought about this novel, or read any of it since I put it aside to just sit. I always do my books that way. It takes longer, but I can't do it any differently.
Sometimes the wait isn't enough to save a new book. I spent most of November and December working on a new title. But it didn't make it past my beta reader, so I junked it. Brutal stuff. Doing that still smarts. I mean that's a ton of time I'd invested in it. But if it's you-know-what to me, then imagine what it is to my readers. So, I just moved on to my next project.
I've said this before, but I don't like to talk about the novel I'm working on. I guess I'm superstitious. Talking about the WIP will jinx it. Maybe that's what happened in November. LOL. No, I didn't have the time to talk to anybody. Anyway, keep looking in 2012 for my new books. They'll be coming. Promise.
Thank you for your interest and for the blog comments. It all means a lot to me!

Happy Birthday, Al Pacino! My 5 Favorite of His Films
In honor of today's birthday boy, I wrote this blog. I first saw Al Pacino in Serpico at the cinema, and I must say I've enjoyed his early work more his later movies. In not particular order, here are the top five films of his that I've watched.
1. Sea of Love
2. Serpico
3. The Godfather
4. Scent of a Woman
5. Dog Day Afternoon
