Should Have Looked, Opps
Some stories sneak up on you. This one crawled out of childhood memory, slipped under the carpet, got into the walls, and refused to stay quiet.
Carpet People: The Invasion began as a strange idea I had when I was a child: what if an alien invasion did not arrive in giant ships above the city, but quietly entered a house and lived inside the walls and carpet? What if the invaders were so small they did not even realize how tiny they were? At first, that sounds almost funny. Maybe even cute. But then the story turns.
The boy in the house is named Rick, and at first he thinks these little visitors are fascinating. He even wonders if they need his protection. But Rick has another problem too: his annoying little sister is always spying, poking around, and causing trouble at exactly the worst possible time. She sees too much, says too much, and has a talent for making every creepy situation even more chaotic.
But the Carpet People are not harmless. They begin claiming the house as their territory, and once they decide it belongs to them, things get nasty fast. The worst part is their technology. These tiny invaders use circuitry and infectious slime to bring things to life and turn the home against Rick and his sister. Imagine sticky alien slime crawling through carpet fibers, spreading into the walls, and waking up things that should never move. A safe, normal house becomes a living trap, and Rick’s nosy little sister may have stumbled into more trouble than even she can talk her way out of.
After creating the story, designing the cover, and publishing the book, I discovered that a famous author had written a book called The Carpet People. I have not read that book yet, and this story is not based on it. My story came from my own childhood imagination and conversations with my dad. I know I should have researched the title sooner, but this idea has been living in the back of my mind for years, and I am not planning to change it now.
So if you like stories that start small and then explode into chaos, Carpet People: The Invasion might be for you. It is weird, creepy, messy, slimy, and a little bit insane—in the best way. This is not just another alien invasion story. This is what happens when the invasion is already under your feet.

What's going on, More Books!
I’m happy to share that I have written my third book in the Beyond Paydirt series, Beyond Paydirt Across Time. Self-publishing has been a harder road than I expected. I’ve had some sales and interest, but not as much as I had hoped for. Like many independent authors, I’m learning that it can be difficult to reach readers without spending money many of us simply do not have.
Still, I keep writing because I want to express the creative stories that have lived in my imagination since I was a teenager. My work has grown into mystical, metaphysical science fiction, frontier adventure, time travel, mystery, and more. Across Time continues that journey with Richard and Peggy Hammer as they face gold, grief, sacred duty, and a dangerous code tied to Lost Man’s Mine and the ancestral ground of the Niitsitapi Blackfeet.
Richard and Peggy believe Josh, the Lost Man, has finally returned and closed the impossible circle that pulled them through time. But beneath Lost Man’s Mine, a hidden legacy reveals something much deeper: a Prime Pulse fragment, a watchful National Intelligence Agency, and a flaw that could become dangerously close to a paradox. Time is not asking to be rescued. It is demanding assurance.
If you enjoy stories that mix old frontier danger with time travel, hidden history, love, and mystery, I hope you will give Beyond Paydirt Across Time a look. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported my work, read my books, or simply encouraged me to keep going. I will remain persistent, keep learning, and keep bringing these stories to life.
I’m also excited to share what I’m currently working on next: The Invasion, coming in September 2026. It has tiny aliens, one farmhouse, and a dog named Buster. When a crashed civilization moves into the walls, one family’s messy country home becomes the strangest battlefield in Arkansas. It is funny, creepy, and wildly chaotic—a sci-fi horror adventure where survival is never simple when the enemy can fit under your bed.

Adventure, Friendship, and Gold Await
Hello, and welcome to my very first blog post! If you’re here, you probably love discovering new books and exciting stories as much as I do. You might even be wondering, I am, “What does a blog on Good Reads look like?” Well, for me, it starts with sharing a bit about myself and my passion for storytelling.
Meet the Author:
My name is Ralph Hecht. I’m a longtime member of GPAA and Life LDMA, a retired engineer, and an avid fan of historical fiction and fantasy. I live in Southern Idaho with my trusty beagle, Boober. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me exploring rivers, fishing, or searching for gold in the rolling hills near my home.
GPAA - Gold Prospectors Association of America
LDMA – Lost Dutchman Mining Association
My Debut Novel Adventure
I’m thrilled to introduce my first book: Beyond Paydirt at Destiny’s End. This story is a treasure gold hunting fantasy inspired by dreams and shaped by my own adventures and encounters over the years. It’s my hope that readers will be swept up in the excitement and wonder that inspired me to write it.
About the Book
If you’re craving adventure and a little “gold fever,” join Peggy and Richard as they journey into the wild Little Thunder Mountains. Together, they outsmart cunning claim jumpers, forge lasting friendships, and transform an old cabin into a lively home base. Their quest: uncovering the legendary “Lost Man’s Mine.”
This novel is packed with real prospecting details, heart-pounding challenges, and the thrill of discovery. Each chapter is crafted to ignite your imagination and keep you turning the pages.
Why I Wrote This Story
Writing Beyond Paydirt at Destiny’s End fulfilled a lifelong dream and gave me a chance to share the spirit of adventure, camaraderie, and treasure hunting that I’ve experienced. The challenges Peggy and Richard face come straight from the authentic world of prospecting and my own personal adventures searching for gold. I never thought I would write a book but the fire is burning now.
Looking Ahead
This novel is just the beginning! I’m excited to tease the upcoming sequel, where Peggy and Richard’s journey takes a fantastic leap into the world of science fiction. Stay tuned for more excitement, new discoveries, and unforgettable moments as their adventure continues. I’d tell you more but, no spoilers.
