My son is an excellent scientist, something I have always nurtured in him. When I was 12 I was told to choose between the Arts and the Sciences by my school and society. I was devastated, and chose the arts. I miss what I would have been exposed to had I been allowed to choose both; there is a great deal of creativity in science. Have I just contradicted myself?--probably :-)(less)

Apparently that previous sentence was too short. In that case, also, surround yourself with people who love to read and write, listen to them, and attend workshops. There are some very good ones, although I cannot advertise them here; see my twitter account for links to good events; enter competitions, as this gives you a boost when you are recognised and helps you to continue when others begin to doubt that you will ever succeed. Remember that the author of Stoner never saw his book's success. This happened to Emily Dickinson. And Jane Eyre was a slow burner. This may happen to you. Write as a gift and don't expect anything back.(less)

The Dead Secret Review

A brilliant gothic horror. This work also explains how difficult life was for those born out of wedlock in centuries gone by, and without the means to live comfortably.

I had to restart this book around 4 times. I am not sure whether the author intended this to happen since the main subject is gaming and the cyclical nature of gaming and games. It is obviously metaphoric, and I have always loved a good metaphor. I b ...more
