Sam Rook's Blog - Posts Tagged "gate"
Introduction
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog! This is my first post and I will admit that I'm not much of a blogger. However, I think this is a great way to let you know about my book and website updates.
I love hearing from you and encourage you to send me an email (sam.rook.author(at)gmail.com) to let me know your thoughts on characters and plot. You never know how your feedback could shape the direction of the series...
Now for the updates:
I've recently updated the character section of http://samrook.com to include the characters below:
Lord Alextor
Sir Garrent
Mikael & Jenna
Character improvements:
Kathryn
Sir Lanclor
Hal
Group picture on main character page
I've found the "helmet less" approach should give you a better idea on how I envisioned the characters. Please utilize the website's survey page to let me know other characters you'd like me to add.
I'm currently working on the second book in The Knights of Av'lor trilogy, tentatively entitled "Gate." I intend to release it in early 2014.
That's it for now. Please let me know if there are certain topics you'd like to see in future blog posts.

What do you look for in a “portal” fantasy?
As an avid reader of fantasy books, I’ll admit that “portal” fantasies are my favorite. When I wrote the first draft of Hope, I heard time after time that “portal” fantasies wouldn’t sell and writers utilized this approach using the portal for nothing more than to bring a familiar type of protagonist to a fantasy world.
In my opinion, a portal isn’t a one-way door. My intention with The Knights of Av’lor trilogy was always to expand the story beyond Av’lor. Of course, you’ll have to wait for the release of the second book, Gate, in order to find out what I mean.
I apologize, but the release date for Gate is pushed out to later this year. Once I have a solid date, I will post it here and on my website, samrook.com
So, what do you think? Are “portal” fantasies dead?

GATE cover reveal!
Sorry for the long absence!
Unfortunately, I've had to delay working on the second book in the series due to illness. Lyme Disease is not something that allows you to keep to a schedule, but I'm making progress on GATE. I hope to have it out to my beta readers in the next few months.
The cover for GATE is all set to go as you'll see on samrook.com. I'll let everyone know when it's available for pre-order!
