Squirrelicide (2)

Two weeks ago I started what I called the “JP’s Project”. I wanted to write a short story only in English, not a translation from something I wrote in French. I want to thank the people who participated to the project to help me improve my text. As you can imagine, it is not easy to write in a foreign language.

After many corrections, I am now proud to publish on Kindle my first short thriller: “Squirrelicide”. The story is taking place in America, at North Manchester, Indiana, where I spent one year during my studies. I hope you will enjoy that short story and remember that if you have any suggestions to still improve the text, you can always write at: jpvest-e@hotmail.fr

Squirrelicide

My first short story written in English is now available :

"On campus, a squirrel has been murdered. Gabriel Centaure, a French student, is in charge of the investigation. There is a reason for that crime. One you would never expect!"

I hope you will enjoy it.

JP's Project

What is “JP’s Project”?

It is a short story written by me, entirely in English. It is not a translation, but an original story only for English readers.

How can I participate?

It is difficult to avoid mistakes in French, my native language. So imagine how hard it is in English.

Starting March 1st, every day I will post a new chapter on this site (during 7 days).

If you want, you can read it and comment, to tell me where the mistakes are, how I can improve the text.

To make corrections easier, each paragraph has a number. You can also donwload a PDF version of the text.

Why should I do that?

Because you are the most amazing person on Earth!

What is the goal?

Realizing my dream of publishing a short story in English. That would make me more than happy. So thank you for your help, you are simply the best.

The Present (1)

The book I want to talk about today is, in my opinion, essential. In addition, it is not very long, it can be read easily, but you will be learning a lot of things along the way. I am talking about The Present by Spencer Johnson. This title is great because the author is writing about the present as the moment here and now, but also synonymous with gift. And the moral of this book is that the present is a gift that you give to yourself.

You think it is simplistic, as you always live in the present and so there is nothing complicated about this concept . Are you so sure? Are you really in the moment ? As you read this article, you may think about your past, but mostly I am sure you are thinking about the future, what you are going to do right after that, everything you want to achieve during this day. So you are not in the moment. You are not focused solely on this reading, many thoughts are running through your mind. Learn to forget the past and future to live only in the present.

Focus on what is happening right now, nothing else. This is the only way to appreciate what is happening. In general, each moment is put into perspective because we judge it in the light of our past, but also because we are trying to measure its impact on the future. Except that if you live only in the present, any anxiety wings . No nostalgia for the past, no fear of the future, you finally enjoy your life . Obviously we regularly have to take decisions, we must imagine the events that will occur and also mobilize our past to make the right decision regarding our experiences. The rest of the time, we should focus only on the present.

Focusing on the present is a way to manage problems. Faced with a concern, we tend to project ourselves into the future and see all the consequences that this may have. Or we take refuge in the past , not to address the issue. If you focus on the present, you face the problem and you get a much better chance to solve it. Because nothing is either right or wrong. Even in the worst situations there is always a glimmer of hope. It is on the positive that you need to focus on to have the strength and energy to overcome, to solve the problem .

Being in the moment means to stop all the distractions and focus on what is important here and now. You can only create your life in the present. We will continue to explore this book tomorrow. For today, try to stop from time to time during the day to see if you are in the moment or if you are thinking about the past or the future. You will see that we are rarely immersed in the present.
