A Spy at War by Charles Beaumont

Fiction or non fiction? Fiction, it says, but Beaumont was a genuine spy and he writes like it is a manual for spies. Can’t blame him for that except that is technical and dull. DNF.

*** A 1950s childhood. Nostalgia time. Set in England, it fits Australian experience of what it was like to be a child in the 1950s. At first quite evocative, but as I read on, I felt swamped by trivia. Recalled old TV and Radio programmes, which was ...more

John Hi Phillip, it seems I made it gmail or yahoo not withstanding.

Just finished The October Horse by Colleen McCullough ***. Interesting take on Caesar's assassination -- would have been a darn sight more interesting if her editor had got to work with an axe. I got the feeling she was showing off telling in minute detail the minutiae of Roman history and customs.
