Gregg Edwards Townsley is a reflective, free-thinking ex-pastor, martial artist, writer and Western Fast Draw enthusiast living in St. Helens, Oregon. No stranger to the places his Western characters inhabit--Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe--he raised his children in northern Nevada, from 1984 through 1993, while serving as pastor and head of staff of the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City.

Prior to living in Nevada, he made his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Penns Grove, New Jersey, "a veritable fountain," he says, of people and places he likes to visit in his Tommy Valentine, PI series of short stories.

Townsley is a member of the Western Writers of America.

Forget everything else--the agony of covers, who your beta readers are or will be, whether or not you should write in first person or third person, etcetera. If you need to think about what you're going to do, do that first. Then get busy. I set a goal of writing 3,000 to 5,000 words a week, while holding down two full time jobs. It's possible.(less)

“I’ve seen it all in Nevada, Kansas before that, and the War of Northern Aggression before that. People do all sorts of nasty things. And while I used to believe that there was something profoundly wrong about the human condition—sin passed on from the first man and that only the grace of God in Jesus Christ could make everything right, the standard explanation in churches Mormon to Methodist—it didn’t take me long to learn that Christians and non-Christians, women and men, young and old were all capable of doing the worse things a human being might imagine, and then some.

From my upcoming novel, BATHHOUSE ROW, (available this fall).”

“Live Large!”
Don Pendleton

“Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in all your readings have been to you like the blast of a trumpet.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”
Henry David Thoreau

“Make no mistake: I’m all about guns! I just love the legal incongruities our national discourse has spawned, like I can buy a shotgun any time of day without a serious background check, but if I need something for my sniffles, it’s six forms of ID and complete school transcripts. The government has essentially created a system where if I want to clear a head cold, the easiest cure is to blow my brains out.”
