Hello, I am a professional writer working for a large international corporation in their creative department. Initially I started out as a newspaper reporter, then briefly worked as a high school English teacher. After doing my student teaching a company offered me a job as a writer and I've been doing that ever since.

I've had a life-long love affair with ancient Greece. In my house are over 500 books devoted to ancient Greek literature, culture and history. The Wandering King: Summer, Harvest, War is my first historical novel. It is based on little known characters and events recorded in The History by Herodotus. Am currently working on the third book in the series, which it tentatively titled The Sworn Band.

I've spent the last year working on a contemporary novel that I am putting the finishing touches on right now. Once that is done I will go back to work on the adventures of Euryanax. I have Book 3 outlined, just needed to start filling in the blanks. Though I hate to promise a completion date, my guess is that it will take at least 2 years to complete. As I wrote in the Epilogue of Book 2, barring me getting hit by a bus, I am fully committed to completing the series. All the best, Steve(less)

When you have a daily deadline - maybe only an hour to crank out a news story - you don't have time to sit around waiting for inspiration. You just sit down and write.

Today I work as an advertising copywriter. Though I might have 1-5 days to complete an assignment, the process that works for me is to write a rough draft immediately. Then I use every day prior to the deadline to re-write. One of my mantra's at work is: the more time you give me, you'll receive a more polished end product. Give me just a day, and you're getting a rough draft.

Writer's block has always sounded like an excuse given by writers who simply don't have the discipline to sit down and write every day. In truth, it's actually not that hard. All you have to do is dedicate the time. It's that easy.

With This Shield

One of the most gratifying things about reading the reviews on Amazon for The Wandering King is the comments from people that are looking forward to reading the second book in the series. Therefore I wanted give my small band of followers a sneak preview as to where I am going with book two, titled: With This Shield.

The title comes from a famous rite of passage in Spartan culture. When a young man Read more of this blog post »
