Now that I think about it, when I am writing a novel in the first person point of view I tend to only have the main character talk to one person at a time. Even if they are in a situation where multiple characters are involved, I make sure the character talks directly to the characters one at a time. I avoid having any of the other characters talk to one another in a scene without the main character, because then the first person POV would be lost. The thing to remember is that if you have a main character who is voicing the POV in your story, make sure that you don't write scenes where the main character wouldn't physically be able to witness what is going on. For example, after writing dialogue don't say ..." she said, lying through her teeth." if the POV of the character you are writing from doesn't know that the other person is lying. Only write what your main character knows or witnesses and make sure that you don't lose your POV by having other characters talk without the main character involved.(less)

However, when I do use subplots I make sure that they are all properly outlined before I begin writing the novel. I think that subplots add zest to a novel and will make sure there aren't any dull moments in a novel. However, I try to stick to three plots, including subplots, tops. Otherwise I think that they will begin to confuse the reader. If you are going to use subplots, make sure that you have them all planned out and ready to go beforehand; and most of all, don't forget to solve each plot. Never leave one hanging. This will only make your story amateur. (less)

Simone St. James
“Oh, what a joy it is to have a childhood in which you're a freak. To understand early that you're so unlike other people that you're impossible for them to comprehend. To learn not to trust what you see and to certainly never speak of it. To think you might be insane, and to know that if you are, you're alone in a world in which no one cares.”
Simone St. James, A Box Full of Darkness

Lisa Gardner
“You're strong and that helped you, but this doesn't have to define you. You are a young woman with your whole life ahead of you. Don't confuse what you had to do to survive with who you are.”
Lisa Gardner, Find Her

Amy Spalding
“Why are boys so scared of girl feelings?" I ask.
"Abbs, I'm a feminist," he says. "I'm equally scared of all feelings.”
Amy Spalding, The Summer of Jordi Perez

Cécile Guillot
“I’m not a pretty bouquet of flowers that one places on the mantelpiece then leaves to wilt. I’m a poisonous flower. A dangerous one. Try to eat her and she will kill you. I won’t let myself be governed by any man, least of all my husband. I need to get out and take back the reins.”
Cécile Guillot, Lullaby

Stephen Chbosky
“I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have.”
Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
