K. P. Larimar writes middle grade novels where family history and the supernatural refuse to stay in separate rooms.

The pen name comes from larimar, a rare blue stone found in only one place on Earth — the Bahoruco mountains above Barahona, in the Dominican Republic, where she was born. Her family traces its roots back through those mountains, including a long-held tradition of descent from the Cacique Enriquillo, whose name still marks the salt lake at the heart of her debut novel.
