Jonathan-David Jackson was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, in 1987. At first, he could not walk, talk, or even use the toilet. Soon, he was walking and talking as good as anyone, and perhaps better. Walking and talking wasn't good enough, though, so he also learned to write, which he does all the time now.

Praise from 5-star reviews for The Quest for Juice:
“If you’re looking for a literary change of pace, this book is just the thing for you!”
“I enjoyed this so much that I bought the two follow up books as soon as I finished reading it. . . . Highly recommended.”
“This is a deeply weird book. I mean that in the best possible way.”

People sometimes told me that I should collect them all into a book, but I didn't really take it seriously. In my later teens, sometimes I would read a book and think "I could write something better than this." So from maybe when I was 18 years old, I wanted to write a book - it took a lot longer to actually do it.(less)

As I was writing The Quest for Juice, I found out that she's very physically tough. Even though Oscar is the main character, Penelope is usually the one getting them out of the situations they get into, and she's often doing it by breaking somebody's face. Unlike everyone else, Penelope understands the seriousness of the situation they're in and is pretty much all business.(less)

Review and Rebuttal of ’10 Answers for Atheists’

Introduction

This is an expansion of a shorter review on Goodreads, since Goodreads allows only about half the words I had used.

I am an atheist. I have given this book a one-star rating because of my disappointment at not finding anything of substance. Given that the author received a masters degree in Christian Thought and Apologetics and was director of the Center for Christian Worldview and Apol

It's not perfect, but I have found it to be very useful. There are dozens of techniques for generating ideas about anything you're stuck on. Because there are so many, a few of them are similar to each other, but there are still plenty of unique ones ...more
Thinkertoys by Michael Michalko
“We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, or the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die, nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: with purpose or adrift, with joy or with joylessness, with hope or with despair, with humour or with sadness, with a positive outlook or a negative outlook, with pride or with shame, with inspiration or defeat, and with honour or with dishonor. We decide what makes us significant or insignificant. No matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. In the end, our own creativity is decided by what we choose to do or what we refuse to do. And as we decide and choose, so are our destinies formed.”

"More like a 3.5 but I absolutely loved the early part from Alex's POV, it was insane. A very witty, cleverly written book that delves into the many feelings and aspects of being an actress."

Making Connections: 1368. - THE QUEST FOR JUICE by Jonathan-David Jackson 7 41 Aug 24, 2013 04:10PM
“Compare two people, one of whom has been crippled by an accident, the other by an early environmental history which makes him lazy and, when criticized, mean. Both cause great inconvenience to others, but one dies a martyr, the other a scoundrel.”
B.F. Skinner, About Behaviorism

“But I've actually lived long enough now to have figured out what the word "morality" really refers to. I do know what it means, although it's pretty outrageous. It refers to a very simple thought: we shouldn't accept this principle that strong inevitably triumphs over weak. Luck has distributed strength in an arbitrary way: this lion is stronger, this elk is stronger, this group of people lives closer to the river, this group of people lives farther away. Luck has given the person with the penis, the people with the guns, a bit more strength, and so they've trampled over everyone else. Morality says we shouldn't accept that. For the bigger kid to take the smaller kid's candy bar is not right; it's wrong. And if the bigger kid gives that candy bar to me, the process by which I received it was wrong, and it's wrong for me to have it, and it's wrong for me to eat it.”
Wallace Shawn, Night Thoughts

“It was surprising enough when strangely dressed religious leaders took over the government of such a large country as Iran. But now, these bin Ladenists? The tactics they've used are bloodthirsty, sadistic. They shamelessly show their pleasure when their enemies are killed. They touch their victims, they look at their faces. They film the killings! These are all things that we would never do--well, except on very rare occasions, like the time we killed bin Laden himself.”
Wallace Shawn, Night Thoughts

“It seems undeniable that once it beings, violence leads us into some sort of madness, some terrifying maze inside the mind in which we become lost, and we don't know what's happening or what we ourselves are doing.”
Wallace Shawn, Night Thoughts

“Revenge and punishment both imply, “Even if I’d been you, and I’d had your life, I would never have done what you did.” And that in turn implies, “I wouldn’t have done it, because I’m better than you.” But the person who says, “I’m better than you” is taking a serious step in a very dangerous direction. And the person who says, “Even if I’d had your life, I would never have done what you did” is very probably wrong.”
Wallace Shawn, Night Thoughts
