Robert Castle has spent over twenty years writing about film, publishing more than fifty pieces in Bright Lights Film Journal since 2000, alongside over a hundred additional essays elsewhere. His criticism centers on a single, recurring question: not just what a film shows us, but how it asks to be watched.
He studied English through the Writing Program at Penn State in the early seventies, briefly attended Columbia University School of the Arts, and spent time living and traveling in Florence, Italy.
