Thoughts Of A Writer. Ok, Let’s Take It Back.

I think somewhere along the way I got a little too obsessed with making my writing perfect. So this is me going back to how it started. No perfect structure, no endless editing, just me, my slightly fucked-up brain and whatever comes out of it. Welcome back to Thoughts Of A Writer.

Monday Music, week 28. (Here Without You)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Here Without You by 3 Doors Down, a song about distance, absence and the strange ways people remain part of our lives even when they are somewhere else. It became a reflection on friendship, family, love, new connections and the people who quietly become woven into our ordinary days. Sometimes closeness has very little to do with miles. Someone can be far away, someone you rarely see or even someone you have never physically met, and still feel remarkably close.

Monday Music, week 27. (Dog Days Are Over)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine, a song bursting with joy, fear, release and the courage to move. It became a reflection on happiness that feels suspicious, old defences that outlive the danger, relationships we stay in through obligation, and the chances we are too frightened to take. Sometimes the hardest part is not surviving the bad days. It is believing they are finally over, choosing what makes us happy and giving ourselves permission to actually live.

Monday Music, week 26. (Qué Será Será)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Que Sera, Sera, from the warm reassurance of Doris Day to the haunting Pixies version I discovered through FROM. What once sounded like comfort began to feel like surrender, uncertainty and the quiet terror of a future moving toward us. This became a dark psychological dive into fate, fear, control, mortality and the strange mercy of not knowing what comes next.

Monday Music, week 25. (Vienna)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Vienna by Billy Joel, a song about slowing down without giving up on the life ahead. It became a reflection on ambition, comparison, ageing, and the quiet pressure of feeling behind. Some dreams need time. Some versions of us are still becoming. Maybe life is not asking us to stop moving, only to stop treating every pause as failure.

Monday Music, week 24. (Bitter Sweet Symphony)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve, a song that makes ordinary pressure sound enormous. It became a reflection on the strange mixture of beauty and frustration running through adult life, the difficulty of changing without losing yourself, and the quiet dignity of carrying on when nothing feels neatly resolved. Some days the sweetness rises. Other days the bitterness wins. Most of the time, we keep walking somewhere between the two.

Monday Music, week 23. (Mad World)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Mad World, originally by Tears For Fears and later transformed by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews. Two versions of the same song, one restless and uneasy, the other stripped bare and haunting. It became a reflection on growing up, feeling out of step with the world, and how some songs comfort us not by cheering us up, but by making us feel less alone.

Monday Music, week 22. (Prisencolinensinainciusol)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Adriano Celentano and Prisencolinensinainciusol, a fake-English song that somehow says nothing and still makes perfect sense. It is strange, funny, clever and oddly universal, proving that music can connect people through rhythm, attitude and feeling before language gets involved. Sometimes we understand the feeling before we understand the words.

Monday Music, week 21. (Fireflies)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Owl City and Fireflies, a strange, glowing song about sleeplessness, imagination and the private worlds we disappear into when ordinary life feels too flat. It became a deeper look at creativity, childhood wonder, loneliness, memory and the courage to make something sincere without hiding behind irony. Sometimes the smallest lights are the ones that help us see ourselves most clearly.

Monday Music, week 20. (Paradise City)

This week’s Monday Music turns toward Guns N’ Roses with Paradise City, a loud, restless anthem about escape, freedom and the places we build in our heads when life starts to feel too small. It became a deeper look at nostalgia, messy rock energy, chasing somewhere better, and the strange truth that paradise might not be a city at all, but a feeling of finally being able to breathe.
