I was born in New Zealand in 1970 and moved to the UK in 1995. I have been lucky enough to live in New Zealand, England, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates and Italy.

Inspiration is always at hand. I’m an avid reader and never go anywhere without a notebook, including keeping one by my bed! Ideas and storylines can crop up at the most inopportune moments (from something I read on the side of a bus, overhear in a street conversation, or even an incident in a dream) and the thou ...more

Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed The Sender and I hope you enjoy The Gift when it comes out later this year.

The inspiration for The Sender came from a visit to a card shop (I'm an avid card shop haunter!). It started with a simple idea and I added the premise of 'paying it forward' and let my imagination take it from there. I've written a blog about how it all came together here: http://booksbywomen.org/card-shops-an...

Thank you for choosing to read The Sender and for your rating. Much appreciated.

I write one full day a week, so by the time Writing Day arrives, it's all bursting to pour out and my keyboard is smoking! But, I never take it for granted. I know I could be hit by the curse at any time. It must be horrendous.(less)

Creating Colour in Words

As a reader, I love to be transported into a world of imagination and my favourite modes of transportation are metaphors, similes and idioms.
As a writer, these are also my favourite moments of creativity.

I would much rather read about ‘the bruised sky’ than ‘the purple-grey sky’. Of course, the sky is not literally bruised but the language is beautiful and the image created is far more interesting Read more of this blog post »
