It seems so simple, right? You pour your heart and soul into a writing piece and that one fine day finally comes…it’s PUBLISHED! The excitement is unparalleled to any other feeling of accomplishment. Sales are booming and you wait impatiently for the reviews to start pouring in….

I wait…

And wait…

And wait…

Where the heck is everyone? Your fan base, the people who have emailed you and pledged that YOU will be their favorite author until their dying day. They are going to name their next born child after your character. YOU changed their life. YOU saved their marriage. YOU put the spice back in their boring everyday romantic interactions…

I can’t tell you how much I adore hearing these things. It makes me feel as if everything was worth it. The hard work, the hours of slamming my head into my desk. The tears that would overtake me during the revision process when I began wondering if I had just spent the last three months of my life compiling 80,000 words of pure shit. Hearing those words justified all the late nights.

As much as I adore the support, I would love to see those words in BOTH my email and in an actual review where other people know how you feel–even if it’s bad.

Word of mouth is EVERYTHING to an indie author. Writing is only the beginning. But marketing is what sustains your reputation. ��Sure, I have the option of taking my hard word to a publishing house and letting them take money that I earned. That would take the marketing pressure off me. But no–just NO. I will not sacrifice my hard work and give up my royalties because marketing is too hard. That’s lazy. So I am taking time out of my day to show you all WHY reviews are so important to indies like myself. I am giving you a behind the scenes look at the life of and Indie Author.

Step one: An idea is inspired. NOT necessarily something I am excited about. Because my ideas are based on what I think YOU will love. I mold my ideas around strangers I have never even met and I spend the next 3-6 months of my life trying to build a world YOU would love to live in. I do this for YOU. And I wouldn’t change a thing.

Meanwhile, my kids are going crazy and I look around me and this is what I see…

Somewhere in the middle of working my sparkling clean house has fallen victim to a tornado that I was too busy to notice. I gasp, but don’t dare look up because the kids look pretty guilty and I might just see this…

Sure, I could pause and remove the random fellow from my ceiling, but I really NEED to finish this chapter. I have a deadline and I cannot disappoint my fans. They are waiting for me.

I look up from the laptop to find that the sun has gone into hiding. It’s 8 o’clock already. The last time I looked at the clock it was 8 o’clock in the morning. Where has the time gone? Oh right… just one more chapter. Deadline. Fans. No disappointment. No room for failure.

“Mom, were you planning on cooking?”

“Well, kinda. But it’s late. Pizza?”

“Again? Ugh…” they reply.

If a child is tired of pizza, McDonalds, or fast food…you KNOW something is wrong. What kid doesn’t like the treat of fast-food? ��Probably kids who have eaten it ALL week because mommy’s working.

I didn’t even see my wife walk in. Maybe that’s because when she came home this is how she found me…

And ALL because this is how I see my fans…

And it’s worth it.

Please remember that every author puts their heart, soul, time and every bit of energy to see that smile or to hear that praise. All we ever hope for in return is to share our hard work with the world. And how can you do that? DING DING DING….

That’s all we ask. Share the joy of reading with others. Step up for the people who bring entertainment to your life and sacrifice so much to accomplish that.

How many times in your life have you looked at a situation and wondered, “What would I do?” How many of you have used the words, “If it were me I would have…”

I am welcoming your perspective in this scenario. And before answering, ask yourself the above question; What would YOU do?

The subject matter is based on my bestselling book, Disturbia, which has caused quite a stir, and many different reactions. Over all, the feedback has been great. However, there are always those that see this topic as TABOO.

The taboo topic of the day is, Stockholm Syndrome, which is defined as such:Feelings of trust or affection felt in certain cases of kidnapping or hostage-taking by a victim toward a captor.

There are people who will never understand how serious this syndrome can be, or how real. I would like you to imagine you’re in the position of Kali Ness as you read, and make your own judgement of her actions.

Twenty-four year old Kali Ness is abducted on a warm spring day in Humboldt, Nebraska. The terror that ensues is unimaginable, as she finds herself locked in a room that has been designed as a replica of her own. This kidnapping was not random, it was carefully planned and executed by a person who has been stalking her for over ten years.

Her stalker and abductor, Cris James, a twenty-five year old lesbian introvert with a serious case of PTSD and OCD, means her absolutely no harm. She loves Kali but is unable to process her emotions and reactions like a regular person.

Kali faces six months of mental conditioning. Cris has been the one to take care of her needs; from feeding her, to nursing her back to health when she’s sick. Kali becomes mentally reliant on Cris, developing an unconditional love and trust for her that can only be known by a sufferer of Stockholm Syndrome.

The time comes where Kali is given a choice to stay or go. Her loyalty to Cris will betray her own rationale and forbid her from ever considering walking away. This is her life now. And not because she is forced into it, but because she is choosing it.

Now I ask you this; WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Do you think it’s possible to move on and develop a natural and healthy relationship given the circumstances of their beginning? Or has their love been tainted from the start?

The general public would say ‘NO WAY, this is just wrong!’ But in their own mind are they only saying this because they are living within the “Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil. See no Evil” mentality?

Aren’t we all susceptible to loving what is wrong for us? We love food that clogs our arteries. We love cigarettes, alcohol, and random casual sex. Why not love a person who is mentally sick? It’s possible…right?

Can you place yourself in the mind of a victim?

It has been quite some time since I’ve had a chance to blog. And I have realized that in the world of business, absence DOES NOT make the heart grow fonder. My sales have dropped substantially since I have been on a social media hiatus. Thankfully, I have learned my lesson and will do better to keep a better eye on spreading a little news now and again.

As an Indie Author, I spend most of my time either writing, revising, plotting, or half-heartedly attempting to market. UGH, That horrible ‘M’ word. It is a necessary part of my business, but I honestly couldn’t loathe it more. I was born to write–that’s about it. I couldn’t sell a glass of water to construction worker in mid-July. That’s the sad truth. And frankly, taking time away from writing leaves me feeling unaccomplished at the end of the day. Publishing is not always peaches and cream. Sometimes you only get the cream–and at times you get the cream that’s gone slightly sour. With that being said, I still couldn’t love my job more.

I adore each and every email I receive with words of praise and acknowledgement for my hard work. The least I can do is give a little time to each of you to let you know how things are going around here.

So… things are going very well. My newest project, Disturbia, which is releasing on Amazon.com this coming Thursday, November 20th, 2014, was a big switch from what I am used to writing. It took a lot of thought and soul searching but I did it!! I have had a good deal of Pre-orders for it as well, which kept me going harder and working faster. I’m so excited about it!
