Ted Tayler is the international best-selling indie author of the Freeman Files and Phoenix series. Ted lives in the English West country, where his stories are based. He was born in 1945 and has been married to Lynne since 1971. They have three children and four grandchildren.

His thought-provoking mysteries appeal to readers of Sally Rigby, Joy Ellis, Pauline Rowson, and Faith Martin. His action-packed thrillers are a must for fans of Mark Dawson and J C Ryan.

Gus Freeman’s cold case investigations are carried out with reasoned deduction rather than bursts of frantic action. In each of the 24 books, unsolved murders are accompanied by romance, humour, and country life. The core message in the 12 Phoenix novels is that criminals should pay

What I do when I get temporarily stuck is, I get up and go and do something completely different for a couple of hours; perhaps I watch some sport, potter around in the garden or go shopping with the wife!
When I get back to writing it's a lot easier to pick up the thread and get on with things than if you sit and stare at the blank page for hours on end.
The other tip I would give is, stick to writing about things that are in your comfort zone, then at least you can be confident that you know what you're writing about. If you need to include something you know absolutely nothing about, don't try to 'wing it', do loads of research, make copious notes and then the battle is already partly won!(less)

If it’s verbally, face to face, then that’s fine and I enjoy that too; however, I can reach more people with the written word and long after I’m gone the books I’ve managed to get finished will be available somewhere, for anyone who wishes to read them. I don’t have a ‘message’ to get across; I’m simply a storyteller. Being a writer allows me to tell stories.(less)

3 Shocking Mystery Books with Plot Twists

Some mystery books with plot twists stay in the memory long after the final page. The best don’t simply surprise us. They make us look back at everything we thought we understood and wonder how we missed what was there all along. Clues, false assumptions and clever misdirection are all part of the game between […]

"This was a free kindle acquisition but was still not really worth it lol. It felt trying too hard to be a cool spy book, and I thought the main character was kind of dumb."

Top-quality thriller. I'll run out of superlatives if I write a lengthy review. Safe to say it's got all the ingredients I love in a first in a series. I already know that I'll be back for the rest. Great characters, great plot, and fast-paced action ...more

Quick, enjoyable read.

All the familiar cosy mystery ingredients were there. I liked the pacing most. The story rattled along at a good lick, and although we pulled up sharply at the end, it didn't spoil what an enjoyable experience it was. Impressed.

I struggled to retain focus on this one. Maybe it was the dialect and the fact that it was dated. Not one character jumped off the page and grabbed me, demanding to be read about in the next book in the series. Not for me, I drifted.

Took a while to get into this. Not having read any of the series, I didn't know the characters and their relationships. It was a meandering tale that didn't pick up pace until the very end. It's been a long time since I read a book of almost 500 page ...more

I can't fault the police procedural element, and the writer's experience means the criminals are a genuine reflection of the grimier individuals on the wrong side of the law, but it would make a change for there NOT to be a rogue copper. Every story ...more
