"I love the time period this story is set in, the 1920s. So much was changing, especially for women during that time period and the author depicts that very well. The most popular form of entertainment at that time was vaudeville acts. This story is a"

“You said your cousin was a necromancer. You know how the natural necromancers operate?"
They twisted the head off your favorite doll, stuffed a dead bird into it, and made it walk around. And then they were puzzled why you got upset.”

“Well, shit," Dobe said. "I guess you're familiar with the law. You hit it over the head, set its house on fire, and got its sister pregnant.”

“Slowly the reality of the situation sank in. He got his ass kicked, learned nothing, and got saved by a dumb dog and an old lady. If he lived long enough to report to Nancy back in Adrianglia, he would have to gloss over this part.”

“My youngest brother killed a lynx yesterday,” Rose said.
“Apparently it came into his territory and left some spray marks. He skinned it, smeared himself in its blood, and put its pelt on his shoulders like a cape. And that’s how he came dressed for breakfast.”
Cerise drank some beer. “My sister kills small animals and hangs their
corpses on a tree, because she thinks she is a monster and she’s convinced
we’ll eventually banish her from the house. They’re her rations. Just in case.”
Rose blinked. “I see. I think we’re going to get along just fine, don’t you?”
“I think so, yes.”

“You said he was a soldier. You don't suppose...?"
"Oh, Gods." Ignata blinked. "You think something could be wrong down there?"
All of them looked at William, who chose this precise moment to slide the wet shirt back on his back, which required him to flex, raising his arms.
"That would be a shame," Cerise murmured.”

How exciting that you have one of the signed prints of Chris McGrath's Dresden covers! I personally haven't read those but my husband is a huge fan.
I live in Seattle and it so happened that Kim Harrison and Patricia Briggs (it was a joint signing!) tour included Seattle last spring! It was my first book tour and signing; they were both wonderful and hilarious!
Sorry I didn't clarify but that chapter in Trent's POV is a rewritten "A Perfect Blood" chapter and not from the next book. Here's what Kim said:
"This is the version that will have one of the chapters rewritten from Trent’s point of view, giving us another look at not only Rachel, but Al as well."
Some of my other favorite UF series are: Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Stacia Kane, Karen Chance and I liked the earlier Charlaine Harris Sookie books but sadly they plummeted downhill for me after book 8.
Hi, Negine! (Sorry! I've been adding an extra "r" to your name for some reason. I'm having some eye problems, and my computer screen is often blurry. I'm gonna blame it on that!!)I'm happy to be your friend. I'll bet we have other books in common, too, besides the Hollows. It will be fun finding out.
Oh, lucky you! Where do you live that you got to go to the signing? I've never been to one. I did order a signed print of one of my favorite Harry Dresden covers from cover artist, Chris McGrath, who I LOVE, but I've never met an author before. Even briefly. That really sounds like fun!
I try not to read any of the advance chapters of books coming out, just because it makes me that much more anxious to get my hands on the next book. I DO read any and all short stories or other "complete" publications connected to the series, though. Hope you find the chapter fun.
I enjoyed seeing Trent's memos "in his own hand" in the Hollows Insider. I just thought that book was so clever...with the "taped" pages, and handwritten stuff, and paper clips, etc. It was as much fun to look at as it was to read. And I liked the summaries of each type of supernatural being, too. It helped get them all straight in my mind. My memory can get fuzzy in between books.
What other series do you really enjoy?
Hi Marcia, Thanks for friending! To answer your question (from Susana's thread) I do have The Hollows Insider and I agree, it's a beautifully made collection with some great info. In fact I went to Kim Harrison's signing back in March and had her sign it! Looking forward to Into the Woods - specifically the Trent and Jenks short story, woohoo!- as well! Also apparently there's an extra chapter in the mass market edition of A Perfect Blood (releasing today!). It's a chapter rewritten from Trent's POV :) Needless to say I'll be stopping by the bookstore to read it!
Hi, Andrew! I'm doing well. How about you? I was intrigued by all the groups you belong to and your interests in dragons, especially. I thought it would be fun to follow your reviews, etc. Thanks for saying hi!
Thanks for friending, Marcia! As fellow Urban Fantasy and Hollows fan, I recommend you check out my blog! I've got a special Hollows corner on there with lots of fans. I actually just did a giveaway for my ARC of A Perfect Blood (I think you'll love it when it comes out ~_^). Please make sure to vote on my poll for your favorite Hollows book if you join (it's in the Polls section):http://vampirenovelfan.wordpress.com/
Happy reading and I look forward to discussion!
Hi, Lady Danielle! Thanks for the invite. Looking forward to getting to "know" you. I'll have to check out your blogs, etc.
