I’m a first-wave baby boomer who remembers both “Duck and Cover” and the federal polio immunization program. Anybody who thinks those were the good old days would have gotten a real kick out of the Bubonic Plague/Hundred Years War era.

(Or, as far east as Japan if you prefer the Marco Polo route.) Getting to Japan required a psychological evaluation (the feds have a file on me like Elaine Benes’s, describing me as a “difficult” patient) and more shots than the Salk program, but was well worth it. Especially since you taxpayers footed the bill. (Note: “SOFA” has nothing to do w

I recommend Charlotte Bronte's "Villette" and Conan-Doyle's "The Lost World." The former is excellent, if not as dramatic as "Jane Eyre." And the latter is an entertaining adventure story with much more humor than the Sherlock Holmes stories.
I did re-read "Brave New World" and "1984" this spring. They seemed timely, somehow. (less)

Guantanamo: Death Investigation, Camp Kreyol

"Haitians fleeing a coup are placed in a U.S. Navy base tent city. The grisly death of a migrant women leads to suspicions of espionage while a violent insurrection in one of the camps evolves into special peril for an NCIS agent who'd thought she was just in GTMO to investigate fraud."

The setting of the novel is 1991, but what has horrified me recently is how issues of sexual assault and exploita Read more of this blog post »

“Toe in new water: I now have the rights to my novel, originally published by Blair under the title "B.O.Q," and have re-published on Amazon under the title "Camp Lejeune, Death Investigation: Paradise Point." (If you missed it the first time, it's a NCIS police procedural featuring a female special agent. Lots of military color and humor that even a civilian can appreciate.”
