Andy Crooks, writing as Andy C, was born in Port Arthur, Ontario. He graduated from Lakehead University with a Commerce and Finance Degree and then completed a Law Degree at the University of Toronto.

He sobered up in his third year of law school, November 3, 1977. Since then, he has completed over 48 years of continuous sobriety.

He moved to Calgary. He married his wife Doreen, and they have two children.

For Andy, not drinking was the first spiritual awakening. He’s been blessed with subsequent spiritual awakenings as the results of the practice of the principles of the 12 - Steps in more and more of his affairs.

Andy has been instrumental in the foundation and ongoing growth of Simon House in Calgary. He was also a leader in the creation ...more

Recovery Beyond Meetings: Living the AA Program Every Day

“Sometimes I work the Program with my shoes on—making calls, going to meetings. Sometimes I work the Program with my shoes off—praying or meditating.”

I noted this quote from a speaker at an AA meeting because of its poetic simplicity. It reminds us that we can practice these principles in all our affairs.
