I'll go for months loving to write, bursting with new ideas every other second, and never losing motivation. But then, it all disappears and for a month or two I feel uninspired or too lazy to put myself to work. The solution? I block every form of entertainment for 24 hours (use the SelfControl app for computers, it's great). You read correctly! It was terrifying the first time because I didn't know if I could survive, but trust me you will. All that extra free time leaves nothing but time to think. And if you don't come up with anything, at least you're forced to read if you've been neglecting reading for a while. Just by sitting down and exploring all the other works people have published can get your mind working. Writer's block is terrible to deal with but trust me, eventually, you'll get out of it and come up with something even better than before. The problem might even be that you want to work on something entirely different. Exploring writing that you've never ventured into before can seriously do wonders.(less)
