Alicia G. Ruggieri grew up breathing in the salty air of coastal New England. She now writes grace-filled, Christ-centered fiction from her home in Wisconsin, where she lives with her husband and sweet second-hand mutt. She loves old graveyards, dusty libraries, and excellent cannolis ~ not necessarily in that order.

Can I choose two?

First, being given the gift of exhortation - knowing that God is using me to speak to other people's hearts and encourage them along the way heavenward.

Second, getting to live everyday through other people... In one story, I see Britain during the Dark Ages and live as a peasant girl. In another, I travel back to the 1930s and endure the crushing poverty of the Great Depression. It's quite an adventure!(less)

Fear - of not being able to adequately express yourself or that your writing is not good enough ... Running on empty - you've been writing too hard for too long and haven't taken the time to refill on inspiration. You have the "materials" or the vehicle, but you need gas. If the reason for my case of writer's block is fear, I give my story and writing over to God again; after all, He is the One for whom I write in the long run. If my writing is stalled because of "running on empty," I pick up some old favorite books to read and recharge ... I might go on a long walk ... clean something ... do something creative but non-writing-related. Usually, one of these things recharges me and then... I simply push on.(less)

“Our God isn’t stingy with His grace, like we are sometimes.”
Alicia G. Ruggieri, All Our Empty Places

“I am a woman who may never do great things for God, as the world terms them. But there must be all kinds of usefulness, including this: usefulness in the small things.”
Alicia G. Ruggieri, A Holy Passion: A Novel of David Brainerd and Jerusha Edwards

“She thought of the Good Shepherd with His sheep. Of the Man hanging upon the cross. And the understanding bubbled up within her soul: He makes all things new.”

Christian Fiction...: November's Books of the Month - Books Chosen 41 96 Oct 04, 2016 11:11PM
“Of all the things that God has made, the human heart is the one which sheds the most light, alas! and the most darkness.”
Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

“Literature is a luxury; fiction is a necessity.”
G.K. Chesterton

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
C.S. Lewis

“Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

Sandra Thanks for the friend request, Alicia! Enjoyed your biography. My daughter went to a private, Christian school and complained about it each year when her friends left. It was a very small school, so I know what you mean by the good and the bad. We kept telling her she'll appreciate it one day. We're still waiting. :)
