G. J. Paterson lives in Tulsa, OK, with her partner of 35 years (and spouse since 2008), along with a passle of furkids. She writes book reviews for The Gayly, a regional newspaper in Oklahoma City, as well as the San Francisco, Portland and San Diego Book Reviews. She is at work on two new novels: one a mystery set in current-day Oklahoma, and the other a fantasy novel set in a time and place similar to the Silk Road that ran through Samarkand in Central Asia, circa 1000AD.

G.J. is active in animal rescue and the LGBT civil rights struggle. She is a proud member of the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center in Tulsa.

Wonderful Day!

Am sitting at The Phoenix with my beloved drinking their excellent coffee and enjoying watching the snow. Working on my new book, tentatively titled Small Town Blues, when I can tear my eyes away from the beautiful world outside. :)

“Our lives are lived between madness and secrets... Our secrets make us who we are." - Derek Quinn”
G.J. Paterson, Bird of Paradise

“It never was about the musician or the instrument - it was about the laser notes in a hall of mirrors, the music itself. It was going to change the world for the better and it has. Maybe not as fast or as much as we wanted, but it has and it still will. Whether your name is Mozart, or Django Reinhardt, or Robert Johnson, or Jimi Hendrix, or whoever is next; who you are doesn't matter so long as you can open that conduit and let the music come through. It is the burning edge, whatever it sounds like and whoever is playing it. It is the noisy, messy, silly, invincible voice of life that comes through the LP on the turn-table, the transistor radio, or the Bose in your new Lexus that makes you want to get up out of whatever you are stuck in and dance. It is Dionysus and the Maenads all over again. No one can control it and I pity whoever tries. I am old now and only a house cat sunning herself in the window - but I was a tigress once, and I remember. I still remember.”
G.J. Paterson, Bird of Paradise

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune

“I think it's romantic," she said mostly to Edward. "Cursed to live their lives in the shadows, to be together only under the cover of darkness... hiding their love from the sunlight."

"They're gay, honey," said Emma, "not vampires.”
Z.A. Maxfield, Crossing Borders

“I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.”
Marilyn Monroe

“Hanging onto resentment is letting someone you despise live rent-free in your head.”
Ann Landers
