I have to stop and repair what I produce after every few paragraphs so I'll know what I wrote. Many of my errors defeat spell check, and might confuse me if I didn't correct them right away. On the bright side, though, this process makes me notice other things I could improve--word choices, sentence structure, etc. (And it certainly keeps me from making hot responses in social media.) So, even though it slows me down, all in all it may be making me a better writer.(less)

A Tail and a Tale: Bob Can Talk His Way Out of Anything

There’s a lot of wildlife we don’t see. The Rio Grande is low right now, making it easy to cross from the empty desert land on the other side. Tracks in the mud from recent rain showed small hooves trotting around on the mesa near Healing Waters Trail where I was running. I’ve never seen a javelina up there, but those were their little pointy feet. No surprise. We expect them around he

This is a high-intensity book, almost too high intensity at first. I had to take breaks from it. That’s not a complaint, just an observation. The tension, urgency, and risk of the assignment Niki is on are huge. And then more danger piles on.

“Cram your head with characters and stories. Abuse your library privileges. Never stop looking at the world, and never stop reading to find out what sense other people have made of it. Oh the house of denial has thick walls
and very small windows
and whoever lives there, little by little,

I ran away.
