Trust me, the universe doesn't give a damn if you (or I) don't write. No need to add to the pile of words out there unless you really feel an imperious desire.(less)

Two Queens and a Chronicler is an atypical historical novel inspired by the lives of Romania’s queens, Elisabeta (1843-1916) and Marie (1875-1938)—Queen Victoria’s granddaughter. Written entirely as a dialogue between three women—the two queens and t ...more

Such as astute question, but I think you've answered it yourself. In conversation the word would be "ta," as you point out. That's what I was thinking when I wrote that scene. However, you're right in the sense that this distinction isn't conveyed in See Lisa’s answer.

I'm sorry, but I didn't see your questions until just this morning. Yes, I'm working on a new novel write. I'm very close to completely the first draft, which is why I've been ignoring other responsibilities...like checking Goodreads.

“There was a woman who, whatever she did, could not be...her eyes moistened in sympathy with the ocean of blue mist. And she tried once more to show that she was and opened her mouth to talk, but the words stopped in her throat, walled up. And out of her mouth grains of salt began flowing, piling up all around her body.”
Alta Ifland, Voice of Ice - Voix de Glace

Her home. She thought of her body inside and outside this house, like an uncanny phantom moving in a dreamy space. Was it because her soul was somewhere else? No, she didn't have a soul. Then why this feeling of strangeness, as if all things were receding behind a veil of smoke, and this painful certainty that if she tried to touch them, they would disappear in a universe beyond her reach? She thought of the ridiculous game with words she practiced now and then, in a language that wasn't hers to save a body that wasn't hers. She tried to imagine she was real. And she sank even deeper into the spiral of nowhere.”
Alta Ifland, Voice of Ice - Voix de Glace

“The room, orphaned of silence, remains for a moment hanging in uncertainty, then its walls collapse with a noise of snow wounded at its core.”
Alta Ifland, Voice of Ice - Voix de Glace

“Intolerance of ambiguity is the mark of an authoritarian personality.”
Theodor Adorno

“A man needs enough...no less, no more. ”
Marina Lewycka, Two Caravans

“But loneliness is as delusive a belief in the pertinence of the world as is love: in choosing to feel lonely, as in choosing to love, one carves a space next to oneself to be filled by others - a friend, a lover, a toy poodle, a violinist on the radio.”
Yiyun Li, Kinder Than Solitude

“The present is a kind of memory.”
Jonathan Tel, Scratching the Head of Chairman Mao

“Sometimes an outsider can understand us in a way we do not understand ourselves.”
Jonathan Tel, Scratching the Head of Chairman Mao

Andrew Schirmer Thanks for the request! I admire your restraint in refusing to adhere to the asinine star-system of rating books. Looking forward to exchanges with you.

Stephen P(who no longer can participate due to illness) Great taste in books. Good to be friends Alta.

s.penkevich [hiatus-will return-miss you all] Thank you so very much for the friend request. You have quite the impressive taste in literature, looking forward to discussing some books soon. Also, impressive collections of poetry!

Christine Hatfield good afternoon

Lisa See Happy to be a friend. What an interesting bio you have!

Nation Hirstein Martin Dressler The Tale of an American Dreamer may have been the first book I read as a real adult, but I never stopped reading, so I think that it may have been the book that made me an adult, or at least ushered me towards adulthood. It's taken me seven or eight years to be able to even describe my feelings for it with any kind of accuracy, so I'm glad they resonated with you.
