"Dontcha know? I'm Electro!" AKA my review of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (SPOILERS AHEAD!)

Happy Saturday, everyone. Today, I finally got around to seeing the new Spider-Man movie.

I'll start off by saying I didn't particularly love the first one. I thought it was too soon for a re-reboot, and too goofy to be taken seriously at certain parts. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't one I would've seen twice in theaters--or even bought after the fact. Which I haven't.

But my love for Dane Dehaan prevailed in this instance, and I had to see the sequel just for him. I left the theater feeling...

Keeping creatively fit

You know what I hate? Exercising.

Really. I just can't stand it. I always tell myself, "This is the week. I'm going to work out every day after work for half an hour, and I'm going to do it for a whole month." And do I? Nope. I get about three days in and I find better things to do.

It's hard work keeping in shape, especially if you aren't motivated to do it. Some people always find time to carve out for exercise. I'm definitely not one of those people. However, I always find time to keep mysel...

Not much to talk about

Hello dere, everyone. I haven't written in a while, and that's because I haven't really had anything to say.

I think a certain impression exists that authors NEED to post regularly on their blogs to keep themselves known. And to some extent, that's of course true. Writing constantly is good practice, and it does draw attention to ourselves across the blogosphere.

But what do you do when you have nothing to write about? What do you do when you have nothing to say? Is it better to write anything just...

Book Signing Success!

Unfortunately, I cannot find any pictures where I don't look goofy. But, hey.
The book signing was a success--at least, as far as I am concerned, and as far as first book signings go. I would estimate a head count of about 60 people. I sold a grand total of 57 books (some people bought more than one copy, while couples might've only bought one to share). So, at $10 a pop, I'd say that's decent money!
But of course, it wasn't about the money. It was a memorable event, a shining moment in my life...

Why I don't like to read reviews for my books

We all want to believe that we're going to write bestsellers that are impossible to hate. Sure, we know the reality of the situation and understand that isn't going to happen, but we can still dream.

But the truth is this: no matter who you are and no matter what you write, you are going to receive negative reviews. It's just going to happen, and there's nothing you can do about it. Even the best writers--J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and J.R.R. Tolkien, just to name a few--have received negativ...

Forget the pressure--just write!

That is the face of how I've been feeling lately.

Confession time! I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed for a while now, though I only admitted it to myself about two days ago. Lately, my life has consisted mostly of preparing for my book signing, writing the sequel to The Dragonlord's Heir, trying not to sweat the bad/average reviews, recovering from the flu, working full time, and preparing to go to Texas for a wedding in just under a month. I've had a lot on my plate, and I didn't realize...

Recovering...

It's been a while since I've posted, and that's for a few reasons.

I've been spending every free moment preparing for my book signing and writing the sequel to The Dragonlord's Heir. Balancing these tasks hasn't been easy!

And reason Number Two: The past week, I've had the flu and have barely gotten out of bed. It has thoroughly sucked, but I am recovering! I plan to get a lot more done over the next week, and a new blog post (of substance) will be up soon enough.

That's it for me! What's been n...

Book Signing Announcement!

I'm pleased to announce that my first ever book signing will be held on Saturday, April 5th, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the KJWL Studio in downtown Fresno.

I'll admit, I'm quite nervous and will pretty much be winging it the whole time, but I look forward to it all the same. It's going to be a lot of fun--not to mention, there will be food and wine! You can't pass that up.

If you're interested and happen to be in the area around that time, I would love it if you stopped by. The more, the merrier!

Self-publishing is NOT a last resort

If you are a self-published author, chances are you've had a few conversations that went like this:

You:  I'm publishing a book.
Your friend:  Oh, really? A publisher picked it up? That's wonderful!
You:  No. Actually, I'm self-publishing.
Your friend:  (blank stare) Oh.

Maybe you were afraid to tell them the truth. Maybe you were panicking on the inside while trying to appear confident on the outside. Maybe you wished you could just suck the words right back into your mouth.

Th...
