The One Book Dream

Okay. So, originally I planned for The Catalyst to be one book.

(Rather than two big-ish books)

Unfortunately, as I was writing, I realized the story was too long for one book. At least, one book that I was able to write at that moment.

(I'm getting a little better at writing long stories...baby steps)

However, as I was writing a few days ago, I found some of my old notes. And right there in black and white (horrible handwriting, btw), were my notes pondering if my writing chops were able to pull...

The Catalyst: Book Two [Chapter Ten]

Chapter TenRobin quietly opened the front door and paused. Addar sat in his chair by the fire. He raised his head when she came in. They stared at each other, until Robin broke away long enough to close the door. Addar stood from the chair and started toward her.
She turned away to set the radio on the table by the door. When she turned back, Addar stood several feet from her. His expression was carefully blank.
“You did not see your parents,” he said.
Robin met his gaze. “No.”
She took a step...

The Catalyst: Book Two [Chapter Nine]

Chapter Nine
Robin looked out the window at the deserted football field. The moon shown down on the thick blanket of snow and cast the expanse in an unearthly glow. She shifted in place. The movement drew Addar’s gaze. She could feel him watching her.
“Are you well?” he asked.
Robin nodded without looking at him.
There was no point in trying to press him for information. Since his return to the house, he had refused to speak about what was on his mind. Something had him upset, almost panicked. H...

The Catalyst: Book Two - Chapter Eight

Chapter Eight
Robin stood on the frozen football field, bracketed by her parents. Shannon was busy with George and Sergeant Talbert and his remaining soldier did not leave the school. Their absence left only the two government scientists, Amber, and the silent Vanor.
The fire burned high up into the sky, the flames lapping at wood, fabric, and flesh. The smoke was too thick to see Dr. Lawrence’s body. Robin was glad for it.
She nodded to her parents and turned away from the pyre. Addar stood b...

Chapter Seven

I hope everyone is enjoying the chapters. I'm working to get the book out ASAP. Until then, look forward to a new chapter each week. :)

Chapter Seven
“George is not doing well,” Vivian said.
Robin looked up from the steaming cup in her hands. Her parents sat across the tent from her, both of them on her mother’s cot. Her father’s blue eyes shifted from her mother to her.
“Something will need to be done,” he said.
Robin frowned down at her coffee. “Yes.”
She had spent the night in her parent’s tent...

Chapter Six & Book Blurb

I just realized I hadn't written a book blurb for The Catalyst: Book Two and went about doing that. So...here it is!

After the chaos and destruction of the invasion, the surviving humans are left with only two choices: Die from the virus or wait for the invaders to return.

Dr. Robin Kay and her small group seek to find a cure to the virus and way to stop the coming attack. Along with her family, assistant, and two members of the invading race, she struggles to survive in a world made host...

Chapter Warnings: Contains some bad language.

Chapter Five
It was not a farewell, it was something…else. Robin frowned into the flames. Mates. Addar had never been open about his culture. Not when she was studying him and not after the attack. Most of his pas...

The Catalyst (Book Two) - Chapter Four

Chapter FourThe faint light of morning struggled through the thick cloud cover. Robin stared up, through the vent in the tent roof, at the sky. She should move. There were things to do. Instead, she lay perfectly still.
Addar was a soothing presence pressed up against the length of her body. The hair at the nape of her neck moved with each slow breath from his lips. She could count on one hand the number of times they had been alone together since the attack began. Robin could not bring hersel...

The Catalyst: Book Two (Chapter Three)

Another week, another chapter! As promised, here's Chapter Three. Hope you enjoy it. I will be posting Chapter Four next week. As always, feel free to comment. :)

Chapter ThreeHe knew Robin’s solution would not last, but he thought it would last longer than it did. It was a bandage on a fatal wound. Already, he could smell the sickly stench of death on several of their group. The man, George, was fading even if he did not realize it. His wife was not much better.
Addar scanned each face he pass...
