A native Oklahoman, I grew up as a devout churchgoer in the Disciples of Christ Church. I didn't realize how conservative our church was, at least partly because the town was dominated by Baptists--and they couldn't even dance! (I loved to dance.)

In my own pilgrim's progress, I have traveled from Fanaticism to Despair to Agnosticism to Faith and Hope of a sort, akin to the Taoist "great faith, great doubt, great effort." And boy have I hit a lot of potholes along the way (not surprising for someone living in Oklahoma).

For me, books and literature have been both a comfort and a challenge, a way to express myself and to connect with others. And sometimes, even a way to dance.
