Will Leben is an Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at Stanford University, where he still teaches the occasional course. After completing an M.A. in Linguistics at Northwestern U in 1968, he received his Ph.D. from M.I.T. in 1973.

He has spent a total of 5 years in West Africa, first as a Peace Corps volunteer and then as a visiting professor and researcher.

From 1988 to the present, he has worked with the linguistics program at Lexicon Branding, Inc., to develop linguistic tools for creating and evaluating brand names.

His three most recent books:
