| An interesting scientific paper expanded to book length for commercial purposes. The central points are highly valuable but don’t take 50 pages to make. | |

“Because to exist meant making copies and copies of your own DNA with less and less accuracy with time, to lose the spring in your skin, to inhale a poisonous gas that both allowed your next breath and exploded you from the inside at an insidiously slow pace. To exist was to give way to entropy. To live, in no uncertain terms, was to die.”

Hi there! After I sent the request, I realized that there was a follow option. I was about to cancel and just start following you for a while, so I wouldn't appear impertinent, but you accepted! Oh thank you so much! I'm really happy to be friends with you and I too am looking forward to our future interactions. Vessey :)
Hello! #900 was taken, as you feared - but happy to make your acquaintance as I move toward #1000! :)
Happy to help out! I so rarely browse the recommendation section, but enjoy recommending books to my friends.

Same. Wish I had some horror short stories to share for the collection too, but sadly I'm just behind on my short story writing in general :)
I'm glad you are in such a good/tipsy/high on life etc mood and all compliments accepted graciously. I am glad that you are happy about certain things and of course you are pretty too and ALL of your books are doing cracking and I'm extra itching for your future writing. Hope that you are having an extra extra nice evening. I've just come back from watching Crimson Peak, which actually had one bit that was a bit chilling, and I never get scared at horror films. I'll stop now as I've just glanced at Harry's post below (!!)
I sat down to start reading Saxual Healing last night and wasn't able to focus at all, as my neighbours were having multi-orgasm-fuck-me-that's-the-loudest-sex-I've-ever-heard-why-don't-they-shut-the-fucking-window for well over two hours. Who is he? Superman? It must've been a sign. Saxual Healing reading will resume soon.
Thank you, Leo for accepting my Friend request. I had liked your comments in someone else's reviews, and we also share some friends.
Thanks for befriending, Leo! Ah yes, I too thought we were friends already! But I also thought a little formalizing doesn't hurt, right? :) Looking forward to good times over books!

I loved Silicon Valley if you haven't seen that :)
I chose The White Ribbon for me and the family to watch- biggest waste of time ever! Haneke not for me, haha!
No Lynch yet tho Mullholland Drive was next!! I do agree with "the hipsters" on Von trer, and heneke not sure, I liked la pianist but Amour was fucking agony!! took me 3 days to finish it because I just fall asleep after 10 mins :DBut generally I like more the odd films oout from a late night going through imdb lists than following "The Directors" and the occasional dark comedy GAAHH .. now this convo has gone too smart for me to be in it- I'll go watch some Mindy Project :D
oh and have you seen Orange is the new black? YOU NEEEED TO if you haven't :D

Got it, Aya :)
Yeah I agree! The funny thing is they're both good books! Like Animal Collective is a great band and Spike Jonze a great director. They (all hipsters) got Lynch wrong though, only about half of the first season of Twin Peaks was any good, and maybe Blue Velvet- everything else though?? Have you seen Mulholland Drive? Eraserhead? Eugh those films suck, haha!!
Actually I'd figured they'd be alooot more pretentious? hah let's say 70 to 30, agony to enjoyment since there's no in between ... eveeerrrrrHipsters are usually spotted reading IJ and Gravity's Rainbow while drinking coffee (starbucks).
PS: Call me Aya :D

I really love these choices- just goes to show DFW remains the people's least popular writer for the people haha!!
Easy to see why he's been surrounded by pretention- you can usually spot the hipsters by how much they claim to "enjoy" reading DFW, but maybe you'd agree that there's not much "enjoyable" about it :P
Great share! :)
I found this and immediately was like you would appreciate this!:D http://www.csmonitor.com/Books/2012/0...

No problem, Leo. Glad to have more book-friends on here. I stumbled upon your page after reading your review on The Castle by Franz Kafka. I am still reading the book, but think I have to agree with what you said :D
A comment you made about Sims made me think you might enjoy this Chuck Kosterman piece called "Billy Sims"... I believe it's a bit dated, but amusing (more so, I imagine, if you've played the game, which I haven't)..."Billy Sims"
hi Leo, it seems we have a lot of books in common and some common sentiments. i look forward to seeing your continuing updates
Thank you for the friend request, Leo. I see we have quite a few books in common which probably bodes well for our GR friendship. Look forward to our bookish discussions. :)
"- My girlfriend is too much like me/ I can't turn my girlfriend into me no matter how much I try (but I'd hate that anyway because I hate myself)- agony distant relatives address your every weirdly-worded bizarrely overthought restless and deliberately unsolvable whine"I spit coffee out my nose over that one! Love that image, and the line. I'm up to chapter 3, obv., and having a great time.
I'm down with the light reading unless there's angst, angst is my kryptonite :D I tried listening to American Gods but after 5 mins and registering zeroo words, I have the attention span of a toddler really :D so I'll get it and read it cuz thats on my 2014 list and if I don't like that one too noo more Gaiman for me! :D
Well that was easy :D I feel a little guilty tho since I don't get Gaiman, like everything is good but I'm just detached and boooored ughhh so frustrating!!

Thanks for accepting, Leo! As I'm going to study in England starting this September, most of the books on that shelf are required reading material. I still have so much to catch up on! Best wishes, Sam.
