Randy Nikkel Schroeder is the author of Arctic Smoke and Crooked Timber: Seven Suburban Faerie Tales. He has published over fifty short stories and numerous poems, and is a multiple award loser. He is often confused with fellow Weird Fabulist A.M. Arruin, and vice-versa, but they’ve arrived at an uneasy truce.

During the day, Schroeder is Professor of English, Languages, and Cultures at Mount Royal University. He once had a beer with George R.R. Martin, who most certainly did wear his hat the entire time. He also once had drinks with Lemmy from Motorhead, who remained hatless, but was otherwise exactly as you’d expect.

Don Cherry, Dumb Canada, and Narrative Form

Finally, painfully, with excruciating moratorium, Canadian "icon" Don Cherry was fired from Hockey Night in Canada this weekend. How is it that this chronic purveyor of easily falsifiable prejudice and misinformation could have occupied this well-paid platform for so long?

I think part of the problem is the structure of story and narrative itself, and boy howdy, did Cherry ever partake of, maintain Read more of this blog post »

“But deadpan cool has long since thinned into a manner. Its reflexive irony is now more or less the house style of late capitalism.”

“For the truth remains that more can also be more, and that less is often inevitably less.”
