Buttercup Film
This is the opening three minutes of the silent film on the Buttercup Poultry Farm. The original footage was shot in 1930. I edited it and added the soundtrack/titles. Watch it - its not boring!

Changing History
Apart from writing a good story and good looking book, part of my reason for writing The Buttercup was to help restore the names of the Buttercup and Andrew Ewing to their rightful place in history.
The recent opening of the Buttercup Farm Park was a major step forward. I also noticed this heritage plaque outside a former Buttercup shop, which is another small step in the right direction. "Buttercup Dairy (1924-45): This branch of the philanthropic chain sold milk and eggs from the company’s Scottish farms. The shops were recognisable by their distinctive tiled entrances"

MUCH MORE THAN A STORY
When I first decided to write 'The Buttercup', I had three objects in mind. The first was to write a captivating story that captured the spirit of the company, its founder and its people - not just the bland facts. The second was to illustrate it to the standard of a high quality photo book, using top quality paper and design. The third, and most important, was to change the social history of Scotland and elevate the status of Andrew Ewing to the point where he was mentioned in the same breath as Andrew Carnegie and David Livingstone.
It is for the reader to decide how much I succeeded in the first two aims. As regards the third, there can be no doubt that Andrew Ewing and The Buttercup are now far better known in Scotland, particularly in Edinburgh, where the council recently opened The Buttercup Farm Park. There has also been a fair bit of press/magazine coverage, including articles in The Scotsman newspaper, Scottish Memories magazine and the Scots Magazine. The Scottish Daily Mail also prepared a feature article, but it was withdrawn at the last minute owing to the death of Margaret Thatcher - which took up all the space! The book has also led to the uncovering of some lost Buttercup murals, as well as the discovery of two lost Buttercup, films, shot in the early 1930s.
We are still some way from Andrew Ewing becoming a full blown Scottish icon, but changing history takes time and cannot be achieved in a few short years.

The Buttercup: Scotsman Feature Article
For those who haven't seen it, this is the Internet version of 'The Scotsman' feature article on my book,'The Buttercup'. The paper version had lots of pictures and was spread over two pages. The Scotsman is a Scottish national newspaper.

Another Buttercup Mural Uncovered
The publication of 'The Buttercup' three years ago has created a significant interest in the story and the old shops. In August, Edinburgh City Council opened The Buttercup Farm Park and, a few days ago, the persistence of a Buttercup fan also led to the discovery of another Buttercup mural in North Shields, Northern England.
She alerted me to the possibility eight months ago but, since the shop had closed down, there was nothing much we could do. However, when a new tenant took over the shop, she lend lent them a copy of my book, which ignited a excited interest on what lay behind the old wooden panel. Late last week, the wooden panel was removed revealing a beautiful 'Girl & Cow' mural in pristine condition.
I visited the shop on Friday and helped remove some boarding on the interior wall, so revealing some wonderful Buttercup ornamental plaster. There are probably more Buttercup features to be uncovered and maybe even a stain glass window - all very exiting for those of us involved.
Photographs and related news can be seen on The Buttercup Facebook page.
