Peter Vik grew up in Imperial Valley, California. He spent most of his youth romping around among alfalfa and sudan fields; playing with swords, making up songs and exploring the countryside with his brothers and sisters. At twelve years he started his first karate class, and karate has been an important part of his life ever since. As an adult he earned a B.A. in Biblical Studies and a Master’s Degree in theology. He now teaches Biblical studies and Greek at San Diego Christian College. He spends his spare time reading, writing, practicing martial arts and spending as much as possible enjoying the magnificent hiking trails in Southern California. His first novel, Hope, was published in 2016. It is the first book in a series of three. The s ...more

What a great question! You asked for one, but I am going to make bold and give three because they are neck and neck.
1. Curdie and Princess Irene, from George MacDonald's "Princess and the Goblin," and "Princess and Curdie." My own girl Hope is partly inspired by Irene, and also by her magical grandmother. Curdie and Irene have a sweet, pure and simple love that carries them through many trials.
2. Amy Dorrit and Arthur Clennam from Charles Dickens' "Little Dorrit." Their relationship is part of the inspiration for the romantic elements in Hope. Amy and Arthur are genuinely good people who live lives of integrity when the world around them has none. I was so happy they were able to find peace and happiness together in the end.
3. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from Suzanne Collins' "Hunger Games" trilogy. I had written Hope before I read this, so there was no inspiration for my writing here, but I really love them as a couple. Katniss is dark and complex. She is no shining moral figure, but I like her. She's tough and tenacious. Peeta is one of my favorite literary characters. Which is funny because I mostly only read books that have been around at least 50 years. Peeta's love for Katniss in these novels is a model for how every man should treat the woman he loves. (less)
Peter Vik The first draft is done and we are continuing editing. I hope we can get it ready quickly. I don't have an exact date yet, but it is definitely on the way.

Richard Fugate titles this book "Bible-Based Hermeneutics," but the book says virtually nothing about hermeneutics. The only place where any methodology for studying the Bible is seriously discussed is Appendix E, where the methods are based on many ...more

Wes Van Fleet
Wes Van Fleet is on page 55 of 224 of The Unvarnished Jesus: “The whole earth did not wait outside that little stall with bated breath in anticipation for the birth of heaven's Prince. The scandal of the incarnation is that it did not enjoy the company of fanfare. The Word who became flesh wasn't, initially, a shout. He was a whisper.”

Rand spins a good yarn, but the "rational egoism" philosophy that stands behind her narrative is nonsensical gobblygook. Reading her work reminded me of reading Upton Sinclair, especially his novel "Oil." This is not because their works share values, ...more
