Leonard Martin is a Southern Iowa native. Got a Love’n Heart is his first novel. He spent his youth growing up on a farm southeast of Leon, near the Missouri border. Following graduation from Central Decatur Community Schools, he entered the U.S. Army. He then served at Torii Station in Okinawa, Japan. After the military, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Mathematical Sciences at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

He spent the next thirty-two years teaching secondary mathematics with stops at Iowa schools in Tabor (Fremont-Mills), Melcher (Melcher-Dallas), and Afton (East Union). The longest stay was at the last school, East Union, where he taught for 26 years.
