Valarie Savage Kinney The idea for my most recent manuscript began when the world lost Robin Williams, and morphed (and got stranger and weirder) from there.

I know a lot of authors say to push through it, but for me, if the words aren't coming and the story isn't flowing, I figure that's my brain telling me it needs a break. I turn off the computer, go outside (I know! Gasp!), walk my dogs, play some Apples to Apples with my kids. The only time I can't do this is when I have a deadline, but still, sometimes even a short 30 minute break can help.(less)

It’s been a long time.

It’s never been my intent to ignore this space. It’s a special place to me; the only place I felt comfortable sharing my words, my thoughts, with anyone else for the longest time.

It’s not as though I’ve ever had a regular routine for posting on my blog. It’s been hit or miss since the beginning, but at this point I can’t recall the last time I wrote anythi

Audrey Niffenegger
“Long ago, men went to sea, and women waited for them, standing on the edge of the water, scanning the horizon for the tiny ship. Now I wait for Henry. He vanishes unwillingly, without warning. I wait for him. Each moment that I wait feels like a year, an eternity. Each moment is as slow and transparent as glass. Through each moment I can see infinite moments lined up, waiting. Why has he gone where I cannot follow?”
Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler's Wife

George R.R. Martin
“When the sun has set, no candle can replace it.”
George R.R. Martin

Jane Austen
“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Neil Gaiman
“Sleep my little baby-oh
Sleep until you waken
When you wake you'll see the world
If I'm not mistaken...

Kiss a lover
Dance a measure,
Find your name
And buried treasure...

Face your life
Its pain,
Its pleasure,
Leave no path untaken.”
Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book
