Oh Goodness! I do not check my author page often, obviously. Hope you are still out there reading!
You sent this almost a year ago. To be honest i had to look back at the book synopsis and my review and I still don't have a clear memory of the plot. As for the ending, in my review I say the following:
"The ending? Abrupt but I get it and I like it. Much is left unknown Do John and Marion get back together? What relationship will he have with Franklin. What about Rose? The bar? Fay and Carl.
I was glad he did not fall for Fay's attempts, had the morals to know it was wrong at least until she was an adult. This read takes some effort on the part of the reader but that's the fun part. When you read the last sentence you have to stop and think. I made up my own more detailed ending which, if written out, would be pandering. Telling. We had enough clues about Taft to know what would happen but exactly how? Good book group conversation if I was in one!"
Some books end that way and some readers hate it and some, like me, are okay with it....One has a pretty good idea but there are open possibilities...
Take a look at my novel, Nothing Else Matters - please read it and let me know how you feel about the way I ended it!!! Jean Smith Carlton

SATISFACTION - Finishing A Flannel Quilt With 'Big-Stitch'

The Women of the West quilt guild (WOW) has helped me get back into quilting.

Our charity coordinator, Mary, collects unfinished quilt projects. It could be just a top, or there might be batting, backing or even prepared binding all ready to move this UFO toward completion.

SIZE  38 x 50Mary assembles bundles and sets them out on a table at our monthly meeting. I scurry over to browse for some Read more of this blog post »

Amor Towles
Dear Andrew,
The language you quote is stated by a character who is transparently an ugly, immoral, and reprehensible figure. These are exactly the sorts of things that he would think and say. As a result, the book calls attention to the reprehensible See Amor’s answer.

“Why did dogs make one want to cry? There was something so quiet and hopeless about their sympathy. Jasper, knowing something was wrong, as dogs always do. Trunks being packed. Cars being brought to the door. Dogs standing with drooping tails, dejected eyes. Wandering back to their baskets in the hall when the sound of the car dies away.”
