Because it’s been such a big part of my life—and being in recovery from it is something I work to maintain every single day— learning more about chronic pain has become a passion of mine. I have spent years researching trends, reading books and blog posts, participating in online forums, and fielding questions posed by other people in pain who have contacted me for advice.

I’ve also had the good fortune and privilege to be able to experiment with hundreds of pain recovery ideas over the years—both the traditional and the wacky—personally test driving their effectiveness.

Since there are so many people in pain who are in crisis, I felt it important to share the information I’ve learned, especially since people with chronic pain are often misunderstood and underserved by the medical community.

My goal with this book is simply to give hope to people who don’t have a lot of it right now. I have been incredibly saddened over the past five years watching people from my pain community succumb to their pain—either by suicide or from complications related to their use or overuse of opioid prescriptions.

When my pain was very bad, I remember feeling very hopeless, alone, and at the end of my rope. I don't want anyone else to have to feel that way. If this book can keep even one person in pain from falling through the cracks or taking their own lives, this project will have been worth the effort.

This was maybe a 3.5 for me. This is a fine thriller that probably works for a lot of people. But as a person who reads a lot of thrillers, it was just ok for me personally.

The book is very tidy, which makes it easy to follow. But that means it's als

I had high hopes for this one, but found it a little underwhelming.

While the premise is cool, something in the execution wasn't connecting for me. Perhaps it was the addition of a third narrator (the event manager) who kept distracting us from the t

Oooo. I highlighted lots of great quotes in this book which is the perfect companion for stories like "Ginger Snaps."

In this book, a middle aged woman is going through "the change" which she keeps mistaking for perimenopause when in fact she's becomi

I saw a review from someone saying it wasn't very funny. Was this pitched as a comedy? I certainly didn't get that sense. It's a satirically dark book with a very, very cool premise, and a lead character you might both have some empathy for and loath ...more

This book is touching and charming as hell. Love how it tells a rich and vast story of this woman's life only through the letters (and emails) she sends and receives.

This was a bit all over the place for me.

But I'll be honest, I could NOT get into this book for perhaps the first quarter (maybe third?). Each time I went to read it, I literally fell asleep...over and over. Not sure what wasn't working for me. I gue
