That is a book I read a long time ago, and I believe it was a paperback. I don't know that it has ever been re-released in Kindle format. There is a movie, however, (which is what led me to the book so long ago and where I believe that cover came from). If you can't find a copy of the book somewhere I can highly recommend the movie--it was one of my favorites growing up. :)

It’s a “what if” sort of scenario that supposes shape-shifters and magic and creatures like vampires really do exist. The Sam and Arles story (Look Back in Anger) actually takes place about a decade or so from our current time line, but many stories to follow will take place across the alternate timeline such as the 90s, 40s, and in one backstory in particular, in ancient Egypt. When the hell did democratic socialism become the devil in America?

It’s insane when you step back and look at it: the very policies that dragged us out of the Great Depression, built the biggest middle class, and literally saved capitalism from itself were unapologetically democratic socialist. Social Security. Medicare. Public schools. The interstate highways. The GI Bill. Rural electrification. The 40-hour workweek. All FDR’s New Deal — all wildly popular then

“Life is a disease: sexually transmitted, and invariably fatal.”
Neil Gaiman

“Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are.”
Joss Whedon

John Milton, Paradise Lost

Chuck Palahniuk
“Valley of the Dogs. Where even if they don't kill you, if someone loves you enough to take you home, they still castrate you.”
Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club
