Listening to review feedback is so important as a writer if you ask me. So much so that I went back to my novels 'Out of the Shadows' and 'Underground Murmurs' and made significant changes.

In particular I re-wrote the start of 'Out of the Shadows' to focus more on the main characters of Olsen and Deane. I also added in an additional Akira storyline and made some other tweaks throughout.

I also used the Pro-Writing Aid online tool to make sure the grammar was as good as it could be - I would recommend this tool!

I've adjusted the Amazon keywords and associated book categories and so far I've seen the downloads double.

Underground Murmurs

Morning everyone, I hope you're all ok. So this morning I was reading a blog by a friend of mine Ted Taylor (author of The Phoenix series available on Amazon) and I really connected with his post. Have a read of Ted's blog below, in particular his last post from February 20th:

You know being an independent author or 'Indie' author is no easy task. Most of us work full time or have a limited budget and its small pickings at the best of times when it comes to getting reviews or seeing that your book is starting to reach more people. I know exactly how Ted feels, I did a promotion recently with a third party for around £50 but I only saw £1.45 of that back so it does make me laugh when I read articles about book marketing and they talk about making sure you recoup your budget and more. You're joking right? I can't think of one promotion I've run that I've recouped back that money.

Which brings me onto why I'm doing this. Is it for profit? Er...no, it never has been and it never will be. I've had some really positive experiences from readers who enjoyed my books and that is worth far more to me than getting another ten sales.

I'm making progress on Book 3 'Double Cross' but its a little bit slow. With our house move, work and other stuff I've had limited time available but I'm getting there. It's just the more I think about it the more I think I should just put all of my books 'out there' for free. Who cares about getting 30p from every 99p sale, this is more about seeing people read my work and hopefully enjoy it than any kind of 'profit'. It might just be the best way to get noticed regardless of whether they like my work or not? First things first I need to make more progress with the new book and put it on Amazon for a pre-order so watch this space.

FREE Prologue for Book 3 'Double Cross' has been sent out - the Akira and Deane Series will soon expand!

For all of you awaiting news on the next novel in the series, last weekend I sent out an email with exclusive details on book 3 ‘Double Cross’. The email also included the complete Prologue for this new novel just to give you a taster!

If you’d like to receive this Prologue its not too late! Sign up for updates in the box to the right and I will send you the email that has the Prologue included. I’ll also be sending out Chapter 1 at a later date so don’t miss that. All being well the novel should be released in Spring of this year, I’ll add it as a pre-order item in Amazon and firm up a date as we move further into 2016.

I’ve also started some preliminary work on the fourth book in the series ‘Judgement Calls’ but that has quite some way to go!

Almost 2000 downloads for Out of the Shadows (Book 1 in the Akira and Deane Thriller Series)

Back in November 2015 (http://timjopling.com/over-1000-downl...) I blogged about the first book in the Akira and Deane Thriller Series reaching a 1000 downloads on www.free-ebooks.net which is a fantastic website where you can upload your novel for free and increase the exposure your work can have. Well its only January and its now close to hitting the 2000 download level now! Check out the link below:

Considering its only been on the website for 3 months I’m really proud that its done so well and I’ll be really chuffed if it can reach the 2000 download barrier. I’m sure the cover helps (thanks to Debbie from Cover Collection!) and the content has been gripping enough to catch peoples eye.

Two months ago I decided to make the first book of the Akira and Deane Thriller series permanently FREE on Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble and several other sites. One of those other sites is the popular free-ebooks site and in just 2 months there has been over 1000 downloads which I'm really proud of. It's had some five star ratings too so I'm hoping it can push on and strive for that 2000 download level too!

After feedback from those that have read 'Underground Murmurs' and my own thoughts on this, I've decided to split the novel into two books.

Out of the Shadows (Book 1 in the series)

Underground Murmurs (Book 2 in the series)

I'm updating Amazon as we speak and also uploading 'Out of the Shadows' which will be free to download and those that do can download 'Underground Murmurs' for free as well! I'm also looking to have the book available on other sites such as Kobo, Nook, and iBooks to expand its availability.

The goal here is to make these two novels widely available and look to reach as many potential readers as possible!

I've been working on one of the short stories today that form part of Double Cross, set in Riyadh:

None of the agents from the MI6 Saudi Arabia Station have reported in for 36 hours. Thomas Deane and William Hawk are sent to investigate and discover that Conroy Industries, a flagship British company, are heavily involved in the fate of the resident MI6 agents. Have Conroy Industries been trying to help save the agents or do they have blood on their hands? Deane is adamant they will discover the truth but for Hawk, he will start a journey that will confirm his own self doubts and lead him to a cross road of life or death.

I was passed a copy of Underground Murmurs to proofread and was immediately struck by the characters Deane and Olsen. They are intelligently written, complex characters and the perfect opposite to protagonist Akira.

The storyline is gripping and well written; it held my interest well. This is the first book in the Akira & Deane series, but also reads well as a stand alone novel. The plot builds nicely, each chapter adding something more; another detail to keep you turning the pages.
