I have two strategies when I get to the writer's block:
1) I jot down my thoughts about it, describing the state of mind and the emotions that I am experiencing when I can't write about my subject. It is a free-writing exercise that helps me pass through the block. Just write when you're stuck, whatever comes to mind and heart, and brilliant ideas will surface.
2) I take a pen and a piece of paper and go take a walk. Walking makes ideas roll. When a good idea comes just write down the gist of it so you can work it when you get back to the typewriter. (less)

That small trick opened a larger question: can something be said to “exist” if it no longer stands out in consciousness? From Leroy to Kant, from metaphysics to everyday anxiety, this piece explores a blunt possibility, that many of our “situations” survive only by the oxyge Read more of this blog post »
