Carl D. Smith is a proud Iowa native. He has been a doll salesman, roofer, minister, pharmacist, Specialist in Poison Information, roller rink DJ, and writer. He is a lifelong fan of fantasy and science fiction.

Carl has wanted to be a writer since he first read “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury in 5th grade. The author still resides in the city where he was born. His interests include the Chicago Cubs, the Dead Milkmen, ancient Rome, archery, painting little metal dwarves and gnolls, sweet corn, old Marvel comics, reading, and gas station hot dogs.

He has a beautiful wife and two wonderful children, to whom he promised to take to Disneyland if his writing ever makes him famous. Most of all, he wishes people would find a way to help other people

I also try to use iPhone apps like iA Writer to be productive when the moment strikes. A lot of people think a writer should just gush words daily. Its okay to have input days. Read a little, play some video games, go for a walk. Its all a cycle, the spark will return if you don't fret over it. (less)

A lot of times a writer starts with a scene, builds a set up for that scene, then fleshes out the characters involved... eventually an entire world is built. Nothing beats the feeling of stepping back and seeing where that first unassuming spark of inspiration has lead you.(less)

Quiet but not sleeping

Hi all! I am unsure what sort of reach I have on here, but I just wanted to let everyone know I am still hard at work writing for several projects. Most of 2015 has been dedicated to BCWYWF, that is "Be Careful What You Wish For," my comic book anthology/zine. However, projects of a more prose-y nature are stewing. Thanks for all your support and great, kind reviews!
