Jonathan Fesmire is a happy author of speculative fiction. While he loves a variety of genres, including high fantasy, hard sf, and superheroes, the niche steampunk western genre has a strong grip on his imagination. Hence, the Creedverse was born.

A single father, Jonathan lives in California with his son. They enjoy going to movies, to Disneyland when possible, and play guitar together most evenings. Early in the covid pandemic, Mr. Fesmire took up the hobby of resin 3D printing. He enjoys printing, and painting, miniatures and dice towers when he has the time.

As an author, one of his goals is to write and publish at least one novel per year, and with "Bodacious Creed and the San Francisco Syndicate," he's come close.

The setting and characters were the basis for my 3D modeling demo reel.

These were an undead U.S. marshal, a brothel madam who is also secretly an inventor, and a coyote with steampunk cybernetic enhancements, in a steampunk version of the Wild West. I liked them so much, I later decided to write a novel about them, and it's going to be the first of part of a series.(less)

Well, you can, but you'll get blocked a lot and the story probably won't be any good.

Before you write anything (except for free-writing), know what you're going to write about. For a story, that means having characters and a situation ready to go. For an article, that means you've done some research, taken notes, and know what you want to say.

When writing a longer work, like a novel or non-fiction book, after every section, think about what you've already written about, and figure out what you're going to cover next. Plan scenes before you write the first draft. You'll be surprised how much time this can save you, and how much better your scenes and chapters will be.(less)

Adventure and Beauty: Frost and Edwardian Chapeau Patterns by McCall's

The PatternsI say I'm busy often, because I am, but boy, the last couple of months have been tough! How tough? Moving tough. Yes, my son and have moved. Between looking for a place and packing, these two amazing patterns wound up in a box where I couldn't find them. Yes, that's on me.In any case, I was happy to find them as we finished our move, and now that we're settled in at our nice new apartm Read more of this blog post »
