Joyful Simhat Torah with Hostages Returning

Dry Bones Golden Oldies by Sali, the LSW. This cartoon is from 2009

Wishing everyone a Happy Simhat Torah!

We are all so very happy and relieved to see all of the 20 living hostages coming home today! I watched TV since the early hours of the morning as the first 7 hostages were turned over and are now back  in Isaeili hands. The rest are supposed to be turned over in about an hour. I am so happy to be able to see this day. I wish that Yaakov could too. In any case, who knows what the future will bring, and what sort of ceasefire it will be, and for how long. But today is a day of joy for the whole country and for the Jewish people. It is so fitting that this is Erev Simhat Torah. (the day that we dance with the Torah)

Much love, and wishes for peace!Thank you to President Trump!  and Thank you to Prime Minister Netanyahu! We are celebrating for the moment, but with know that the future will see many challenges. Hag Sameach and Blessings to you all, and your family, and loved ones... peace, health, happiness, prosperity, and freedom, love, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife)Please consider donating to Dry Bones in order to help me keep up the expenses of the Blog and the postings when you make your annual New Year donations. Happy Sukkot and Happy Hostage Deal

Dry Bones Golden Oldies by Sali, the LSW. Wishing everyone a Happy Sukkot! We are super joyful that it looks like a deal has been struck to send the hostages home. Until this actually happens, we're still in cautious optimism mode, but it looks good. Have a joyful, happy holiday!

Much love, and wishes for peace and for all of our hostages to be released NOW and for our soldiers to be safe. I am hoping that there will be no need to wish for the return of the hostages soon, as we are all really looking forward to seeing them very soon. The word at the moment is that the 20 still alive should be home by Monday. We are celebrating, but with fear of something going wrong till the very last minute. Blessings to you all, and your family, and loved ones... peace, health, happiness and freedom, love, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife)Please consider donating to Dry Bones in order to help me keep up the expenses of the Blog and the postings when you make your annual New Year donations. Erev Succot (Sukkot) 2025

Dry Bones Golden Oldies in memory of Yaakov Kirschen by Sali, the LSW. The holiday of Succot starts tonight, Monday and lasts for a week.

Here is a Dry Bones cartoon for Succot from 2009.

This cartoon is sort of the same theme as the one that I posted yesterday, of storm clouds gathering. We are all holding our breaths thinking that maybe, perhaps, the hostages will be coming home this week. And maybe we see a glimer of the possibility of peace, at least for a while. But we see the storm clouds. The Houthis are sending cluster bomb missiles almost everyday. Iran has made specific threats to send ballistic missiles over Succot. So it is both a tense and a hopeful time here in Israel. Also we see that Jews in Europe and America are in danger of being attacked and murdered just for being Jewish. More storm clouds, yet all this week we gather for festivities in our flimsy huts and wish for respite from the storm.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday. Hag Sameach!

Much love, and wishes for peace and for all of our hostages to be really released NOW and for our soldiers to be safe.Blessings to you all, and your family, and loved ones... peace, health, happiness and freedom, love, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife)Please consider donating to Dry Bones in order to help me keep up the expenses of the Blog and the postings when you make your annual New Year donations. Day of Atonement

Shana Tova, & Gmar Hatima Tova. Yom Kippur starts on Wednesday night. Dry Bones Golden Oldies in the memory of Yaakov Kirschen by Sali, the LSW. Here is a cartoon for Yom Kippur from 1998. A fan requested it, saying that it made him laugh. Yaakov always loved it when someone would laugh at a cartoon. I am trying to stay away from politics during this holiday period. So I hope that you enjoy this cartoon.

Much love, and wishes for peace and for all of our hostages to be released NOW and for our soldiers to be safe.Blessings to you all, and your family, and loved ones... peace, health, happiness and freedom, love, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife)Please consider donating to Dry Bones in order to help me keep up the expenses of the Blog and the postings when you make your annual New Year donations. Donate and help Yaakov's wife, (the LSW) and the cause, here is a link. The High Holidays

Shana Tova, and Gmar Hatima Tova. Yom Kippur starts on Wednesday night. Dry Bones Golden Oldies in the fond memory of Yaakov Kirschen (Dry Bones). Brought to you by Sali, the LSW. Here is a cartoon for the High Holidays from 1991. I thought that in these very heavy times, we could all use a bit of lite comic relief.

I am finding my first holiday without Yaakov harder that I expected, but the reaction to my putting up some of his old cartoons has given me much comfort. Thanks to all of you who are reading his blog still.

And another one on the same theme, but in color, from 2011

Much love, and wishes for peace and for all of our hostages to be released NOW and for our soldiers to be safe.Blessings to you all, and your family, and loved ones... peace, health, happiness and freedom, love, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife)Please consider donating to Dry Bones in order to help me keep up the expenses of the Blog and the postings when you make your annual New Year donations. Donate and help Yaakov's wife, (the LSW) and the cause, here is a link. Shabbat Shalom before Yom Kippur

Shana Tova, and Shabbat Shalom. Dry Bones Golden Oldies in the fond memory of Yaakov Kirschen (Dry Bones). Brought to you by Sali, the LSW. Hoping for a better New Year. Yom Kippur starts Wednesday night. Wishing that our hostages will be relaeased and our soldiers will be safe.

It seems a more subdued atmosphere in Israel this High Holiday season. It is probably because of the war and the hostages. The rain started for a bit yesterday, right on time for the season. It always moves me, how perfectly attuned the Jewish holidays are to the weather and seasons here in Israel. We are still having our daily Houthi missle attacks. The UN is there to remind us of any wrongs, just as this cartoon suggests. This cartoon was done in 2000.

Please donate and help Yaakov's wife, (the LSW) and the cause, here is a link. Shana Tova - to a good New Year

Dry Bones Golden Oldies in the fond memory of Yaakov Kirschen (Dry Bones). Brought to you by Sali, the LSW. This cartoon is from 1999 This is a real classic. It is one of my all time favorites.

I thought that Yaakov had re done this cartoon in color, but I could not find it. I am posting this a bit early so that you have time to share, if you want.

The High Holidays start with Rosh Hashanah, which begins this coming Monday evening, September 22, 2025, and ends at sundown on Wednsday, September 24, 2025.

Yaakov had very strong beliefs about Rosh Hashana. I will quote him from an older blog. But I changed the Hebrew date to be true for this year. It is interesting to me that he chose to include a comment about the UN when he wrote this.

"I'm forever getting into arguments with otherwise knowledgeable Jews in Israel who claim that Rosh Hashanah marks the date on which the World was created. Wrong! Rosh HaShanah marks the date of the creation of Adam and Eve and counts the 5786 years since that Biblical event.

On the other hand it's hard to find a Jew here in Israel who would argue with my low opinion of the UN."

* * *"There's also no argument about THIS:
