In the early days of the pandemic, I caught COVID-19 and spent a few days having strange, vivid dreams. In one of these dreams, I was back in my government days and sent on assignment to a foreign country. When I arrived, I had to dodge bullets and realized someone was trying to kill me. The next morning, I wrote down the dream, which formed the kernel of the novel. (less)

"I love this series. The first crossed my path via a Bookbub/Kobo promotion, and it was the surprise book of that year, for me. This second book is quite possibly better. I can’t help wondering whether anyone else who has read this imagines it - just " Read more of this review »

"This installment of Citizen Orlov's escapades does not fall from the first one. It is suspenseful, clever and engaging. Orlov is a Chauncy Gardner kind of character, whose actions left me wondering - doesn't he have an opinion of his own on what's go" Read more of this review »

George Orwell
“During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.”
George Orwell

George Orwell
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
George Orwell, 1984

Elie Wiesel
“We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe.”

G.K. Chesterton
“The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all.”
