Magz's blueberry muffins were as good as they smelt when she was baking them. You know that smell of home baking that has your mouth watering. That was what welcomed me last Friday when I got home. It is a real pick up after a long weeks work. It was a great start to a good weekend with little more than some gaming and a bit of pottering about the garden. I picked some more berries as well as pulled up my carrots which were lovely as Sunday dinner. Well some of them were as there are still a few left for this weekend. The sweet corn looks good but have a bit of time to go before they are ready for picking. And the potatoes are looking really good as I noticed some tatties pushing up out of the soil in the bags. It could be a sign of a bumper crop this year. The shaws are still very green so they still need leaving for another couple of weeks I think.
The birds I think beat me to the coriander seeds. I couldn't see any when I was looking last Saturday but that might have been just the size of the plants. They certainly grew larger than normal this year though they are too heavy to support themselves. They lean out over the lawn from the tub I have them in.
Yes even though it was a very late start to the growing season this year I have managed to get a lot out of my tubs and bags. It hasn't been all good news though. The pak choi was eaten up by the cabbage butterfly or rather their young. I sprayed but the caterpillars seemed untroubled by it, at least on the pak choi. The brussels are still growing though they have little chance I feel of giving us anything this year. The cauliflower and broccoli grew well but maybe in the heat of summer just a little too well. For what ever reason though they failed to form florets which is a shame. That is the way it goes sometimes.

It is a long weekend this week which means Friday and Monday off. As you can tell I am very happy about this. Mind Calum has roped me into putting shelves up in his room tomorrow. Today, because he is at his work, Magz and me went to get the wood. Calum check online and wanted some redwood for the job. I got him MDF instead about an half inch thick. At that thickness it will hold just about anything he can think to place on it. Redwood would have been more expensive as well for what he needs the shelving for which is storing his ever increasing collection of clothing. Next we just need him to clear the bathroom of all his aftershaves and lotions, hehehe. He does like to smell nice.
I got out into the garden before heading to town. I checked the apples to see if they were ready to drop yet. They aren't so another week or two of waiting. I thought with the chillier nights we have had this week that maybe... But no. Mind it does give them time to fill out even more. Of course they are well large enough, at least the cooking ones are. More pie then, yummy. I did notice some of my carrots could add to my dinner tomorrow so after I finish here I will go pick some. Last week I picked my peas and just at the right time for them to be as sweet as sugar. They were lovely. My parsnips have a bit of growing to go yet I think so leave them for now. While I think about it the grass at the back need cut again. I'll need to squeeze that in provided the weather holds but for now the carrots, hehehe.

Just in from picking more blueberries this week. It has been a really bumper year for them. Magz is planning to make crumble with some of tem tomorrow, hope she has custard, while my daughter wants muffins. Luckily there are enough for both and still loads more to be pick provided the wildlife doesn't raid them. I also picked carrots and parsnips. The parsnips were a little disappointing but the carrots are another tale. I left some of the root veggies that weren't really worth picking. the extra room will hopefully give them a chance to grow more. I also saw a small developing pumpkin as I tended to the garden. I am hopeful that it should develop into something worthy of Halloween, lets hope.
We are now into the final week of campaigning on my nations future direction. Should we be an independent nation? As you know I'm all for freeing ourselves from the shackles of Westminster. Mine is only one voice but as this week has unfolded I have been surrounded with similar voices to mine. The only time I have heard the voice of the no camp has been on TV. The news from the all the news outlet, TV, newspaper and radio, has been very much behind the Camp Fear as the no voter have become known. Yeah you have it they have been running a very depressing campaign warning how if we vote for or freedom the world will come to an end. On currencies they have been trying to tell people that if we vote yes our money will disappear overnight and we will all be broke. It is almost embarrassing. If I were a no voter I would be ashamed of these tactics as it makes them look like children having a temper tantrum in them middle of a supermarket. Oh and no we will all have to pay more for the food we buy. The list of negativity grows by the day I hope my nation and its people can see through the rubbish. That they can see the better future that could be ours by breaking away from the old tired regime that has not served the best interest of the people of Scotland. Rather It has squandered our wealth to further the prosperity of the elite in London while leaving us poorer. this is our time to show our Bravehearts to the world and vote Yes on Thursday.
