Interview with horror writer, Israel Finn.
Today I have the honor of talking to a great horror author, Israel Finn. His collection of horror stories are fantastic and I highly recommend you pick it up.
Can you tell us a little about yourself? I'm a horror writer living in southern California with my wife, and my dog, Sammy.
Does your wife share the same passion for horror as you?Absolutely! I corrupted her early on!
What type of dog? He's a Westiepoo. That's white west highland terrier and poodle mix.
Dreaming at the Top of my Lungs is one of the best indie books I've read this year. Tell us about the stories that are in it.They're all very dark, psychological horror. Or most anyway. Water and War is more of an allegory, and an homage to Ray Bradbury. But all the stories have some deeper message. I wasn't really trying to do that consciously, but it just came out that way. Because, you know, wherever you go, there you are. And thanks, by the way!Which story out of that collection is your favorite?Stranded. No question.
And why is that?I've always loved time travel stories. Can't get enough of them. Stranded is a bit of a twist on a time travel story. It's more of a time "stay" story. But the concept of playing with time is still there. It also has that message in it of "be careful what you wish for" which I love.
Why the horror genre? It's the best there is, in my opinion. It can have elements of all the other genres and still remain true to itself. Horror goes deeper. It explores the nooks and crannies of human psychology, people's deepest fears and anxiety. Kafka said, to paraphrase, if a story doesn't wound you, if it doesn't draw blood, then there's no reason to tell it. Horror draws blood.
Great answer. Was there an author that influenced your writing?Stephen King would have to be my greatest influence. But also Bradbury, Matheson, and McCammon, to name a few.
What was you first Stephen King book?My first was my favorite. The Stand.
The second author I've interviewed who'd said that book. Fantastic read.Yes it is. I've read it probably five times.
How do you go about planning out your stories? Or, do you write them on the fly?Somewhere in between. I try to remain as much of a pantser as possible, because it's more fun to write that way. I get to be surprised along the way. But some stories demand a degree of outlining, depending on how complicated they are.
Any rituals?
Not really. I just get up in the morning, eat some cereal, have a cup of coffee, walk the pooch, then start inWhat are you working on now?A novel about a man who is given the power to travel through the multiverse, and who has to stop another man from destroying it.
Sounds interesting. That will be placed on my TBR list. When is it expected to be released? My plan is around Halloween to be finished with the first draft, so hopefully sometime after the first of the year.
What defines horror the best to you? Gore, or plain old creepiness?Definitely creepiness. The late 70s and 8os slasher flicks hijacked the genre for a while, if you ask me. Blood is easy. Try scaring people without gore. It's harder. But it's almost always better. It's like Hitchcock said about the turning of a doorknob being scarier than actually seeing what's on the other side of the door.
Very true. You think that is missing in today's horror? The Exorcist still creeps me out today when I watch it. You don't see that much now a days.I think it's making a comeback. You can only see so much blood and gore before you get desensitized to it. People want good stories, with strong characters. I love The Exorcist too, by the way.
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and chat, but before you go, what's the one horror movie you've watched so many times you know it by heart?Stir of Echoes. LOVE that movie!! Thanks for having me. This was fun!

Interview with Carol Sabel Blodgett
Today I had the pleasure of talking to the witty, Carol Sabel Blodgett.
First off, tell us a little about yourself.I'm from the Midwest. I'm remarried because divorce is so much fun. I have three kids. One is sixteen and just went to military school. Loves it. Weird. My twins are eleven. I live outside Tulsa and moved here from SE Iowa a few years ago. And I just went indie and I’m very excited to be making my own decisions. You just went indie. So you were with an agent before? An agency, yes.
Why did you decide to leave? We had MAJOR creative differences. Rather than editing and working together it was "slash this, cut these chapters, this is ridiculous, why would you write this? This is low class and crass..." I was looking to work with someone, or a couple of someone’s, not be brow beat over my work. It didn't start out that way but it wasn't long.
In other words, full control over your work.I guess so, yes. I can compromise, no problem, but name calling has no place. I have a new team and I can't tell you how easy it is to work with people who respect you.
What was the first book you published?Wanderer. Book One in my series. There are 5 total.
Have you completed the series?Book 4 is 3/4. Book 5 will go quickly because I know exactly what I’m doing. 3 is in editing right now.
Tell us a little about, Wanderer. My story centers around three characters. My lead male is Seth, he's not been able to die and has no idea why he's able to keep going hundreds of years after everyone he's known has kicked off. Erica is just a regular girl who's anything but regular, though she doesn't know it yet. Roe is the one who's followed Seth all his life, her only ambition is to have him to herself. They all meet up and it hits the fan amid revelations of Seth's past and Erica's present. Though the end has a twist no one has seen coming, thank God.Sounds very interesting. When can we expect to see the book?It was released almost two years ago through my agency. Captive is my second in the series...it came out last month.
Did you plot out the series, or did you write on the fly?I write it on the fly. I know where I want to start and how I want it to end but the guts get made up as I go. It's never failed me. I can't make a grocery list, I go blank, so I try to outline my own work is suicide.
I find out that if I try to plot out a story, you think of something better as you write.I completely believe that.
What was your influence in writing?I think my influence was just to get it out of my head. I had my twins and I became so busy with life that when they went to preschool I had all this time and all these things in my head. I paced my house for some time because I knew that once I sat down to write that I would be all in forever and I didn't want to give myself over to that because it's so much work and is just exhausting but finally one day I sat down and pulled up a page and went like gangbusters and haven't stopped. It keeps me up at night and I get very little sleep these days because writing is calling and I answer it. Writing owns me. I think that's the only way we can do it.Do you have any writing rituals?Sure do. I have to write a chapter if I sit down to write at all. At least one. I give it a day and go back to reread it and fix it up and start on the next chapter. If I get discouraged, I have various other works I’m in the middle of so I have something to go to and still work. Maybe give me some better perspective when I go back to my main project.
Every writer is fueled by coffee. Are you one of them?Surprisingly, no. I love coffee, but I'm too lazy to make it. I go for the readily available milk. Right there, in the jug. No thinking necessary.
What do you find hardest since becoming an indie?Honestly, just learning how to download or upload my work. It's so peaceful to not have anyone to fight with that I wish I had gone indie first.
One movie you need to stop and watch when it’s on.16 Candles
Book that you've read more than once? The Stand, Stephen King, not the puny one, the 1,100 pg. one.
One of my favorites. The movie was decent. It was. I watch it when I come across it too. Every single time.
Silliest thing you've ever done?Tried flirting (when I was 17) with hot college guys on a motorcycle at a stoplight and ran into the car ahead of me. I was trying to look sexy and look over my shoulder as I pulled away and they sat in the turn lane but my light hadn't changed and then I was stuck beside hot college guys while the driver surveyed her damage. It wasn't anything she was worried about and she didn’t' call the cops.
I would call that an epic fail :)It's a great story to tell and it's mine. I love it now, but I didn't tell anyone for YEARS.
Thank you very much for taking time this evening, Carol. Thanks for wanting to do this! I appreciate it so much.

Blog Tour Stop with Sean Kerr
Sean Kerr is the very talented author of the, Dead Camp series. He stopped by to talk about his books, and his love for B&W B movies.
First off, tell us a little about yourself.I'm a 46 year old gay man, living in Cardiff, Wales, with my husband of 28 years, Derek. I have a small Interior Design business with my amazing business Partner, Jayne, and we have been going for eleven and a half years. I have very little time off, and little time to myself lol, so that make it tough for writing, but writing is my first love so I use up every spare moment that I can. I am proud to be an author for Extasy books, a wonderful publishing house who are a joy to work with. I love writing, reading, my PS4 of which I'm an addict. I’m a mad Doctor Who fan and I love all the old black and white B movies. I'm also a huge film buff, and my favorite film of all time is Alien.A PS4 addict. What's your favorite game?Mass effect 1, 2 and 3 on my PS3, and the Watcher 3 on my PS4. I am desperately waiting for Mass Effect 4 which is coming out early next year. So excited lol. There will be no writing done when that comes out I can tell you!
What's your favorite old B&W B movie?I have to give two here, because really they belong together. Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein. I absolutely love those films, and I think that James Whale was a genius!! The monster is so beautiful, and Boris Karloff plays him with such dignity and pathos, and it is a performance that I don't think has ever been beaten in that roll.
Great choices. They don't make movies like that anymore.Hell no, more is the pity. I have to say though that I am a big fan of Victor Frankenstein that has just come out on Blu Ray, and I thought it was a stunning film.
How did you get into writing? What made you wake up and say, "I'm going to write a book."When I was 8, my aunt bought me a very old copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula at a car boot sale. I read that book so many times over that school holiday, and it really set my imagination alight. I started writing stories then, and have done so all my life. But life got in the way, and I found myself in a position where I had to work at a very early age in order to eat and live. It was only when I settled down with my husband 28 years ago that I started to write again, but not seriously, more to keep my mind active. But a few years ago, I had this idea while watching a war film, and I found myself wondering what would happen if Vampires were involved. My love of the original Dracula made me want to write my own version of the myth, so Dead Camp was born. I worked for two years writing those first two books, and I loved every moment of it, including the vast amount of research needed. It took me to another state of mind, in that suddenly, more than anything, I really needed to write, I really needed to tell the story and I really wanted to be published. I wrote to over 200 agents, all of whom said no. I was about to give up, and I thought I would approach a couple of publishing houses direct. I wrote to 6, and within three weeks had three offers of contract. Now, my every spare moment is writing, and I love it, every single bit of it. I never thought anyone would read my work, and I never thought I would be published, so this has been an absolute dream come true, and it has only been six months since Dead Camp 1 came out, and already I have made some amazing friends and readers, and it is building all the time. If I could give up my full time job and write every day I would, in a heartbeat, and who knows, maybe one day I will be able to.
Tell us about the Dead Camp series. This is my take on the Vampire myth. I was very conscious that there are a lot of vampire books out there, but I wanted to put my spin on the genre, give it a home steeped in history. I wanted to explain why there are different types of vampire, good looking, ugly, those who can walk in daylight, those who can’t, why they exist in the first place and the history surrounding them. I'm also a bit of a conspiracy freak and I am fascinated by Religion, and Hitler with his fascination of the supernatural. So I was watching this war film, and the idea germinated. I started to research various aspects of religion and Hitler, and I found out all these amazing things which just happened to fit in very neatly with the mythology I was trying to build. So Dead Camp is about an ancient Vampire who has no memory of ever being human, and it follows his journey as he finds out the terrible truth about who he was, and how he came to be. He is forced to get involved in World War two, and it is then that he has to face his past. The arc of the five books is really about forgiveness, and tolerance for that which is different, something that echoes my own life and experiences. The books take place in World War 2, the crucifixion, Victorian London, and they will end with the downfall of Hitler. They are a complex series of interconnecting stories, each relevant to the other to tell one enormous. And I have loved every single moment of writing them!
Sounds very interesting. The next book in the series is coming out soon?
It is yes, book 3. It is currently with my publisher in edits, and the cover is being designed. This was the hardest one to write so far, because the subject matter is very contentious lol. I know this one is going to raise many an eyebrow. This book is where the answers start to come thick and fast, and they are shocking. I nearly shied away from it, I nearly changed the core idea in this book because I was nervous of it, but as I was writing, it just felt right, and I went for it big time. I am fascinated by religion, even though I am not religious myself. So this book was a tough write, but I am particularly proud of it, especially the last chapter which absolutely broke my heart to write. But this one is going to be an exciting one, and I can’t wait to see the reaction to it, and all the 'Oh My God' moments. To you, what are the upsides and downsides of being a writer? The best part of this process, apart from the wonderful reactions to the books, is the people I have met as a result. I can’t begin to tell you of the wonderful friends I have made as a result of this. I had no idea of the audience for this kind of book, I wrote it thinking I was writing for gay men, but oh no, the vast majority of readers are women, wonderful women of all ages, and I am so very proud to be a part of that audience. I have found people to be incredibly kind, and generous, and so very supportive. That has been an absolute joy for me. The down side? It’s tough coming home shattered from work every night and then turning on the computer to work. I find that I’m writing until late in the night, and then I can’t sleep because my mind is on the go all the time. One of the hardest thing to come to terms with is my own paranoia about the books themselves, how are they selling, are people liking them, are they reviewing them. I have had to learn to put that aside, and just get on with it, but I can’t help looking on Amazon US and UK to see if new reviews have gone up, and to I drive myself insane with it. I have to learn not to worry about that side so much, and to get on with the job of telling stories, but, you know what it’s like, we just can't help worrying about it lol.
Last question, and an important one. Rank the Alien movies.LMFAO!!!! Ok, so, here goes. Alien is number 1, the best sci fi horror movie of all time. Aliens is number two, definitely the best sci fi action movie of all time. Now, this might be a bit controversial, but I really like Alien 3. I have two versions of the film, the theatrical cut, where Ripley has the chest burster come out at the end, and I love that version. I also have the director’s cut, which is a very different film. So alien 3 is my third. Alien resurrection. Oh dear. They turn Ripley into a monster, and I'm not that fond of it, or that pink monstrosity at the end that gets sucked out into space. Dreadful film, and definitely deserves to be last for me. And don’t even start me on Prometheus lol!
In the words of Bill Paxton, "Game over, man."
Thank you Sean for taking time today.LOL, and thank you so very much my friend for giving me this opportunity, and for your amazing support and help to all authors. You are a wonderful, talented man, it is my honor to be your friend.

An excerpt from, Dead Camp 3
Running, again. All my life, running. Paderborn forest flashed by in a blur of verdant violence that hurt my retinas it looked so lush, so majestic, all so fucking beautiful. It made my skin crawl. Everything around me looked so bloody…green. That was Eli’s thing, not mine. I preferred the immutable hardness of concrete, the undeniable strength of steel, give me brick and marble as opposed to never-ending trees and grey mountains, anytime. While Eli cowered from the world surrounded by the thick stone walls of Alte, I hide amidst the pumping hearts of the living, yet we both remained fugitives against our own history. The truth, that thing that I feared for so very long, finally there for all to see, fucking us in the ass. History now hammered at our door, and nothing could keep it at bay. How much did my blood reveal? How much of the truth did he drink? The look on his face as my blood hit the back of his throat, it burned my flesh away to reveal the liar he always suspected me to be. I saw it in his eyes, it blossomed there like a bad joke, the dawning realization of all that I had kept from him, the sudden knowledge that I made him. Still, not all the truth filled his mouth. That shit storm would come soon enough, more crap than I could shake a stick at. Everything that happened in Judea, everything that transpired in London, all of it, all of it there for him to see at last. A stranger once told me that the truth would eventually bleed out, no matter how far from Eli I ran, and there I stood, bleeding. “Don’t let me go back to Eli,” I asked of him. “You love him that much?” “Yes.” I did love him that much, enough to spend twenty-six years entombed in a block of ice. It was my choice, my decision. To remain free meant returning to Eli, for I could not resist his pull any longer, and they would have followed me, as they always followed me, straight into the arms of my beloved Eli. I could not allow that to happen. I had to protect Eli at all costs. Centuries of love, and still not enough time. A man must know his worth. A man must know his own name. A man must learn the truth of his own heart. I remained but a teacher, and Eli my pupil, and now I would have to set him free. My God, had it come to that? The end, finally here? The weight of history pounding at the door, I could hear it, I could feel it tearing at my skin, trying to get in, telling me that it was over, that Eli no longer needed me. Time. Fucking time. Endless bloody time. Now, there was none. I was free, running through the forest towards him, towards one of the most important figures that history had ever known. So yes, the time had come, my freedom proved that, but it was the pain in my heart that told me so. I stopped, my world spinning around me in a dizzying frenzy of utter panic. Bile filled my mouth. The final end. History, about to convulse in agony, and we would be at the centre of it. They would be coming for me. They would be coming for Eli. They would be coming for the Spear. I felt the cold fingers of fear grip my chest and squeeze my heart with cruel intent. The pain, so sharp, so terrifying, ripped through my body until I lay on my knees gasping, trembling, blinded by agony and helpless. My hands dug into the nearest tree, fingers digging into the bark, digging into the wood, until the sap ran freely over my knuckles, the tree indelibly wounded, as I myself lay ineradicably wounded. The thing, the splinter, moving inside me, burning its way through me, seeking out my Vampire heart, ate away at my resolve, and offered me visons of a past mortality. Blood drawn to blood. History drawn to history. Death drawn to death. I heaved myself to my feet, determined to move, determined to go on. There was still time, time for me to tell my story, time for me to lay it bare before the one I loved. Time for him to forgive me. For so long I denied Eli my blood, but in that one moment of pity, as he lay on that hill above the ruins of the camp, tired, desperate, I allowed him to feed. My blood is strong, the strongest of us all, and it filled his mind with so much information, all of it so fleeting and momentary, a cacophony of images that would burn anyone less than he. Thank fuck he did not have time to see it all, not there, on that mountainside under the shadow of so much death, it would not seem fitting somehow. It would not befit the man that he used to be. I feared what it would do to him, the knowledge of his own identity. If he had looked into my blood long enough, he would have seen the burden of his own dark history staring back at him, and I feared that it would destroy him now as surely as it destroyed him then, all those years ago in a world that did not know any better. It remained a burden that killed a part of me with every passing day. I lost Eli on the day I turned him, and from the moment that he first looked upon me with his Vampire eyes, I knew that he could never truly be mine. Another owned his heart, and the truth of it tortured me for hundreds of years. Eli was but on loan, until the day that another should claim him as their own. That stranger in Rome, he knew, he knew this day would come -- he knew everything, that funny little man who became my friend.

Interview with paranormal romance author Ariel Marie
Today I had the pleasure to talking to paranormal romance author, Ariel Marie. Her newest book, Emely's Destiny comes out on Saturday.
Tell my readers a little about yourself.I'm Ariel Marie and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. I tend to dabble in paranormal romance that is filled with lots of steamy romance and action. Personally, I love stories that are fast paced, paranormal and action and that's what you will get from my books. So you like to add a little bit of everything in your books.Yes I do. I love keeping my readers on their toes. I don't want readers to be able to predict where I'm going with a book. I just love when I hear that they can not put my books down.
What's your favorite part to write? The romance or the action? It's hard to tell. I love writing about two characters falling in love. i love sharing the emotion between the two. When the action happens in my books, most time, the villain is due for an ass kicking and it is so fun writing the fighting scene and letting the hero win ;) LOL.
How did you come up with the idea for your first book?My first book was Power of the Fae. I tend to daydream alot on the ride home from work, especially when I'm stuck in traffic and I was thinking about a Fae Princess who was a kick ass warrior who had to save the world. Before I knew it, I made it home and began writing the idea down and Power of the Fae was born!
Sitting in traffic is usually when ideas start to flow, lol.Yes!! Music blaring and daydreaming in traffic, lol. Music helps my imagination take off too. Alot of my writing happens while listening to music.
What do you listen to when you write? It depends on a scene I want to write. If I'm doing a steamy scene, I'll play R &B love songs.... if I'm doing a fast action scene, then I'll do listen to rap....I'm not really a rap fan, but there are some songs that will help me channel the action sequence that I need to write about. I listen to a lot of music so it just depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes I'll just let my Apple Music play random playlist and dive right in my books.
When you get wrapped up in the music and writing, what's the longest writing session you've had?Oh, my. I usually take advantage when my kids are gone from the house and once wrote for 3 hours and was able to put away almost 5,000 words!
Was that with the help of coffee? That day tea. I have a weird routine, when I'm at work I'm addicted to coffee but when I'm home it's tea, lol. And sometimes I'll drink a Monster too when I feel myself crashing.
What is your writing routine? When I have an idea and about to start a WIP, I tend to plan a few things first. I go through and name the characters, plan where they are from, write a background story, do a family tree for each person. Then I write down key points that I want to happen. Then I begin to write and see where the story will take me. I do a lot of my writing in the evenings during the week and on the weekends since I have a full time job as a RN.
Tell us about your latest book?
My latest book, Emely's Destiny will be releasing on 8/20. This book was written because of the response that I received from the first book in the series Summer's Destiny. Summer's Destiny was a book that I had written with the plan to make it perma free to gain new readers. Boy did that take off. I had so many people emailing me, messaging me on Facebook and practically begging in their reviews for another book. So Emely's Destiny was born!! This series is based on a vampire race who was being ran over by the humans.... a different spin. In this series it is the humans who are trying to annihilate the vampires and have attacked them and put the vampires on the run. So Emely's Destiny continues where Summer's Destiny left off but with different characters. It's a steamy erotic vampire novella that is filled with action and romance.Vampires is a very popular genre today, what makes you book stand out against the others? I try to make my vampires be more humane. They are not just animals that suck blood but have families, loved ones and fight for the greater good, be it for just vampires or for the entire world. I have another series of vampires called the Dark Shadows and I think people really loved them because of how they fight to save everyone. It follows a family of vampires and each book is about a different member of the family. So you really see the world of a vampire in that series.
To some indie authors, marketing is the biggest pain in the ass. Would you agree with that?It can be. It takes about as much time as actually writing the book. I sit and write out a plan so that I can make sure I take advantage of all my resources and networking to help get the word out about my releases!
Who are your influences in writing?I'm a big romance junkie so who influenced me to follow my dreams into romance books would have to be Amelia Hutchins, Cynthia Eden, Lana Grayson and Anna Hackett.
Are you a Cavaliers fan?Hell yeah!! I was All In this season, lol. I was so bummed that this year I couldn't afford to go to a playoff game, but we watched them all and when they won, we ordered shirts for the entire family ;) Even my young ones love the CAVS, lol.
When LeBron left for Miami, did you think he would be back?I thought about it in the back of my mind, but I wasn't sure how the city would respond. We were hurt. But since he's came back, he's made it up to the city.
If you could meet one vampire, who would it be?Such a hard question.....but I would pick Selene from Underworld!! I have lost count of how many times I have watched that movie!

Interview with KJ Waters
Today I have the pleasure to talking to bestselling author, podcaster, and cover designer, KJ Waters. I’ve known KJ for over a year, and she is one of the finest indie authors I know.
Tell my readers a little about yourself, KJ.
I'm a bestselling author of thrillers, a podcast producer and cohost (Blondie and the Brit), I run a book cover business (Blondie's Custom Book Covers) and a fun loving mermaid wanna be.Fun loving mermaid wanna be?Hahaha if I could have my say I'd do all of this neck deep in a warm body of water.
I've read both your books, fantastic reads that I highly recommend, and they both have to do with hurricanes. Why?Thank you so much for that endorsement! Good question. I've been in over 20 hurricanes and tropical storms in my life, they seem to follow me around but I've outsmarted them by moving to the landlocked Dirtville. When I first moved to Florida Hurricane Charley welcomed me and that summer we saw 5 major hurricanes hit the state. It seemed like a fantastic backdrop for a time travel thriller.
Do you have a fascination with weather?Absolutely! It started at a very young age. I spent my summers with my grandparents on a small lake in Michigan. I'd sit with my dad and watch the thunderstorms roll across the lake in awe of the raw power. My dad would explain all of the science behind a thunderstorm. I was hooked. I seem to attract weird weather too.
Weird weather?Well the storms in Florida were the most dramatic examples but when I lived in Boston we had the most snow in recorded history two of the three years I was there. In dirtville, we moved here and a month later we had a 500 year flood event. Plus the fact I've in so many hurricanes and tropical storms. It seems they follow a pattern in where they hit, mid-Atlantic for the years I was there, Florida for my time there.
Tell us about, Stealing Time and Blow. How did you come up with the ideas?Stealing Time was born on a family trip from Florida to Maine the summer after the storms hit. I knew I wanted to do a time travel thriller but the more I thought about it more the hurricane was pulling me to use it as a driving force of the plot. They say write what you know so the suspense and storm damage was definitely familiar territory. The rest started as a kernel of an idea and I just went with my intuition. I was inspired by the series Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, where a modern woman is shoved back in time against her will and had to deal with the social issues facing women at that time. When I developed Blow, my short story, I first wrote it as the prologue to my second book (out this fall) Shattering Time. This was based on a Facebook friend who told me how he had nearly died during Hurricane Ivan.Doing a time period piece must have required a lot of research. How much did you study to prepare for Stealing Time?It was a lot of effort to get it just right. I first just wrote the plot as I wanted it and then realized I had bitten off more that I wanted to chew. I did research as I went along and then paid an editor to fix the language and any English time period fails I'd made. I'm really happy with how it turned out and a lot do reviews comment on how well researched it is.
Can you tell us a hint of what to expect in, Shattering Time?Shattering Time picks up right where Stealing Time ends. In this book I will take you to the shark infested waters of the Bahamas, the deadly time of the Black Plague and delve into the reason the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island disappeared in 1588 off the coast of North Carolina. We find out more about how the time travel device works and hint at how the different places in time are connected to Ronnie and what it means for her future.
Ever author goes through some type of frustration. What do you find mist frustrating about being self-published?Well let me sort through the file cabinets for that one. The most frustrating part is probably just not having enough time to do all of the marketing I want to do along with meeting my writing goals. Its hard to know what brings you the most readers with the smallest investment of time.I had the pleasure of being interviewed by you and Suzanne Kelman on Blondie and the Brit. If an author would like to be on your podcast, how can they get in touch with you?I'm available on all of my social media sites. We have a criteria for authors and you can submit a request form from our website so we can see if you're a good fit for the program. We interview fiction authors with several books published, all with good reviews and prefer people with a wide social media reach, such as yourself. A great outgoing personality helps as well. You are social media God SJ and have done so much for us and other authors. I hope you know how much we appreciate your support.
It’s my pleasure to help all my fellow authors. We're all in this together. :)
What's the one word you would you use to describe being a self-published author?Complicated-yet-rewarding. Does it count as one word if I use hyphens?
Lol. That's cheating, but I'll let that slide. :)Ahhh thank you.
Here comes the wacky questions of the interview.
What type of weather bests describes your personality?Ha! Okay let's see. You know that moment just after the storm ends where the air is popping with ozonation and everything is freshly washed by the rain? The sun peeks out and the world seems new and ready for a wild adventure. That's me.
The craziest thing you've done?Oh ... I'll stick to the PG version on that one. Probably swimming in a natural spring in Florida with gators nearby. Does that qualify as stupid or just crazy?
I would say brave. LolHa lets go with that then.
Stormy weather or a clear sunny day?I guess the answer depends on what I'm doing. If I'm trying to get neck deep in a warm body of water I need that sunny sun. If I"m writing hurricane time travel stories, give me that never ending rumble of the storm.
Thank you, KJ for taking the time to spend with my readers. It has been a lot of fun, as always chatting with you SJ.

A chapter from, Stealing Time
Chapter 7 – Timely Discoveries
“Miss Regina,” Margaret interrupted Ronnie’s thoughts. “Are you feeling a mite brighter now that ye’ve had a bit of a rest?” “A bit better now,” Ronnie said, keeping up the fake English accent. “If I may be so bold, ma’am reckon I know what you need. Some of Mrs. Baird’s cake. Ain’t nuthin’ better.” Margaret walked over to the tray of food and filled a plate, poured a cup of tea and brought it to Ronnie. “Oh, thank you Margaret.” Ronnie devoured the second piece of cake. The tea was almost hot enough and did a lot to restore her.Ronnie ate and thankfully Margaret quietly tidied the room while she continued her ruminations. Did she switch places with Regina like Freaky Friday? Would another hurricane bring her back? That was rather unlikely to happen in London. She eyed Margaret. Was this woman really from 1752? By all outward appearances it would seem so. As she took the next bite a glint of metal caught her eye. She lifted the white lace of her sleeve and saw rose gold. It was the watch—the one Jeffrey had given her! If she were in Regina’s body how was the watch on her wrist? Was Regina already wearing it when she … what would you call it … arrived? Looking down at the strange hand she moved the lacy sleeve aside to look at it again hoping Margaret didn’t notice. It was new like the one Jeffrey gave her, and didn’t have the smooth edges of the antique she had seen in London. But it wouldn’t be an antique in this time period. Is that what connected her with Regina? The shopkeeper said it was from the early nineteenth century, so that didn’t fit. Could she have brought the watch with her? An image of her body lying lifeless on the floor of the lab bathroom hit her. Is that where her body was?If she could see the back of the watch she would know. Jeffrey’s watch looked completely different with the modern backing and waterproofing. Ronnie didn’t want to draw any attention to herself with Margaret nearby so she continued eating the cake. The antique she had found was in London and here she was in London. Is that why she was here? She laid back down, head spinning with implications of time travel and being in 1752. “Miss Ingram, are you feeling a bit out of sorts, you’re looking as pale as a death. Shall I run and fetch the doctor?” Margaret headed towards the door. “No!” Ronnie was dreading seeing the doctor. “I’m just a bit tired.” “Well I never! Bless me if they’re not on their way here as we speak.” Margaret went out of the room. Ronnie touched the watch, and turned her wrist over. The clasp was complicated. Before she could figure it out she heard footsteps coming into the room. Pulling the sleeve over the watch she looked up. On first sight of Jack’s tidy figure Ronnie inhaled sharply.Margaret followed Jack into the room wringing her hands. “Mrs. Ingram, sir? Is she unwell?” “Catherine is resting comfortably,” Jack said. He headed towards Ronnie. The doctor opened the black case he had left on the table. He took out a sheet of thick paper and rolled it into a tube. “Miss Regina. Forgive me, but ’tis vital that I should listen to your innards and make a thorough examination of the rest of you.” His hot foul breath wafted towards her. She turned her head away and breathed through her mouth.Jack moved to the other side of the bed to give the doctor room and to block her escape. “Regina. You will lay quietly while Dr. Wiggams attends to his duties with you.” What does it look like I’m doing? Ronnie thought, but kept her expression neutral, not wanting to see the wrath of Jack again. The doctor brought the rolled-up paper close to Ronnie’s chest. What the heck was this quack going to do, give her a paper cut? He put one end against her chest and the other end to his ear in a makeshift stethoscope.“Would you be so kind as to make yourself cough, Miss Ingram if you please?” he asked. She coughed. “And now say, ‘menmenmenmenmem.’” Ronnie felt ridiculous but she did as the doctor said, eyeing Jack. He gave her a dark look. Dr. Wiggams unrolled the paper and put it back in the case. “Mr. Ingram you have described an injury to her head. Will you show me where this damage appears to manifest itself?” He didn’t even look at her as he spoke. Jack grabbed her head and twisted her face towards the pillow to expose the lump on the back of her head. Ronnie tried to pull away from his grip but he held her down, not letting her move an inch while the doctor felt the lump and all around the injured area. “Ouch!” Ronnie yelled. “Stop it. That hurts!” She tried to grab Jack’s arm but he shoved her harder into the pillow. “Pray be still, Regina!” he said calmly but in a low tone. A don’t-push-your-luck tone. Jack let go and she gave him an angry look. “That was not necessary. I would have let him look!” Jack pointed a slender finger at her face. “Madam, you will not speak to me in that tone.” It was the same thing he had said to Catherine in the same hateful way. Ronnie looked away not wanting to further incite his anger. The doctor dug around in the case again and brought out a white ceramic elongated bowl with a cut out of its middle. He placed a towel on the bed next to Ronnie and sat the strange-looking bowl next to her. She looked at Jack and Margaret, hoping for some clue as to what he was doing. Their expressions didn’t change. “Please tell me what happened to you Miss Ingram. You must start from just before the accident that has befallen you,” Doctor Wiggams said. “I don't remember anything,” she said in her best fake English accent. “The only thing I remember is when he,” she pointed at Jack, “picked me up and carried me in here.” The doctor said, “Mr. Ingram, may I ask your permission to bleed Miss Ingram? I consider it of the utmost importance to return her humors to balance.” “Bleed me?” Ronnie said. So the doctor had a dry sense of humor. Maybe he wasn’t so bad after all. “Most certainly Doctor Wiggams, indeed you have my permission,” Jack said. Ronnie looked from one man to the other hoping to spot the twinkle of the eye or a smirk giving away the joke. She looked at the strange bowl next to her. “Oh no you’re not!” She scooted to the far side of the bed away from the doctor trying to make a break for the door. “Oh no!”Jack blocked her escape and gave her a look of pure evil. “Madam, pray forgive me, but I cannot cure you of your malady if you do not allow me to do so,” Doctor Wiggams said. Before she could get up from the bed Jack grabbed her arms and pushed her back against the pillow. “Regina, what devilry has got into you? I insist that you will obey me at once!” Jack grabbed her upper arms and held her firmly on the bed. “I have had enough of this wicked behavior. You will be punished if you do not make yourself still.” Ronnie had no doubt that he would hurt her, in fact he already was doing so. His face, so close to hers, flushed red with anger. On the table near the bed the doctor was arranging his rusty blood-stained instruments. He approached and cleared his throat. Jack let go of her arms and took a step back. “You’re not going to use those on me are you?” Ronnie asked. “Madam, I will use what is appropriate in my professional opinion. Pray permit me to help you, Miss Ingram.” The doctor pushed up her sleeve, uncovering the watch. “What in God’s name is this?” Jack said touching the watch face. Ronnie jerked her arm away. “It’s a watch!” Ronnie covered it protectively with her hand because she knew the watch might be her only way to get back home. “Regina! I demand to know from whom did you get this bracelet!” Jack yelled. Heat rose in her cheeks. Regina must not have had it for very long, if at all, if Jack didn’t know about it. In a violent grab, he jerked her out of the bed, making her stand in front of him. “From where did this pretty trinket come, Regina?” he said.Afraid he might hit her again she answered him without thinking, “Jeffrey gave it to me.” And immediately regretted it. “Geoffrey? Who, pray is Geoffrey?” Jack asked, his face taking the hue of the coverlet. Ronnie scrambled for an answer and came up empty. “I am at a loss to understand you, Regina, indeed I am! You have the sheer impudence to tell me that a man whom I do not know is giving you gifts without my consent?” He tried to grab her arm again but Ronnie took a step backwards and bumped into a table. He took advantage of the distraction and raised his hand to slap her across the face again. “Jack!” A man’s voice interrupted his motion. Margaret pushed the man, trying to get him out of the room. “Mr. Stohl, sir, I cannot allow you to enter Miss Regina’s bedchamber.” “Mathias, good of you to stop by cousin,” Jack said. He stepped away from Ronnie and lowered his hands. “Please help me,” Ronnie said, thankful for the interruption. “He has already hit me once.” Margaret stepped away from Mathias, looking nervous. “Miss Ingram, are you sure it is acceptable for Mr. Stohl to be in here?” “Yes, yes, please let him in,” Ronnie said not sure who he was, but maybe he could keep Jack from hitting her again. The man walked towards them. “Robert informed me upon my return zat Fräulein Regina has been in an accident,” he said with a slight accent. German maybe? “Good to have your assistance,” Jack welcomed him. “Indeed I am at my wits’ end with my wayward sister. Doctor Wiggams, this is Catherine’s cousin, Mathias Stohl from Prussia. He is staying with us for a few months as he establishes his business connections.” While the men said their hellos, Ronnie sighed in relief at Mathias’s arrival. For the moment he had defused Jack’s anger. He was a good foot taller than Ronnie, or rather Regina, with broad shoulders. He wore a black suit and white silk stockings that outlined his meaty calves. The man was stunning with big dark eyes and full lips. “Since you are here, perhaps you would be good enough to assist me with my sister,” Jack said. “I am your servant, dear cousin.” Mathias gave her a serious look. “Fräulein Regina, please be so good as to forgive my intrusion. I heard the commotion and was worried about you.” “How very kind of you, Mathias,” Ronnie said, keeping up the fake English accent. There was something very unusual about Mathias. Ronnie couldn’t quite put her finger on it but it was almost as if he were hypnotizing her. Could it be his good looks? Surely not, he was very attractive but Ronnie was twenty-seven years old and not the sucker she used to be for a pretty face. Correction, twenty-eight years old. Today was her birthday. The dinner with Jeffrey seemed like an eternity ago. “Mathias, we were just discussing Regina’s treatment. Doctor Wiggams believes my sister is in need of a bloodletting. Perhaps you can step in and help her see sense,” Jack said. “She has always been somewhat taken with you.”The doctor snorted and glanced at the two men. Mathias ignored the doctor and returned Ronnie’s gaze with a winning smile. A jolt of electricity coursed through her veins. He was in his mid-twenties and blessed with an overload of charisma. She smiled back, not wanting to trust him, but he had already wormed his way in with the bold move to stop Jack from hitting her. Would he protect her again? “Mr. Ingram, Mr. Ingram, if you please, sir! I have other patients who are in need of my services. I must bleed Miss Ingram so I can be on my way,” the doctor said. “Regina, you must do as you are told and sit on the bed and let Mathias remove the bracelet so the doctor can do his work,” Jack said. His tone was civil and a whole lot nicer than it had been before Mathias arrived.Jack came up close to Mathias and whispered something. Ronnie strained to hear him, but couldn’t make out the words. She sat down hard on the bed. There was no way she was giving up the watch. It was the only connection to her world. “If you please, Fräulein Regina. Pray allow me to assist you mit your bracelet.” Mathias pulled up a chair and sat in front of her. He was being very careful with her, sitting back in the chair giving her space. “May I see zis curious bracelet?”Ronnie looked at Jack and put her hand over the watch protectively. “No!” He smiled at her. “Come, come my dear girl. Your brother desires for you to remove zee bracelet. If you do not do so the pretty zing will be soiled from the bloodletting.” She shook her head. “Jack will have the bracelet come what may. Would you allow me to remove it? Or do you want to do so?” he said while glancing back at Jack. “I don’t see why anyone needs to remove it. It’s not Jack’s. It is mine.” She felt like a small child defending her toys. “Enough!” Jack bellowed. “Remove the wretched thing from her arm, Mathias. If I take it off her, by God it will not involve any discussion.” “Jack, calm yourself. There is no need to raise your voice. She will comply. Will you not, Fräulein Regina?” “Can’t the doctor use the other arm?” she asked, hoping there was some way to keep the watch on. It was a link to her life, and maybe her only way back. There had to be a way to keep it. She turned her wrist over and tried to undo the clasp herself, hoping that she would be able to keep the watch if she could shove it down her bodice or something. With her thumbnail she pulled on the clasp and it opened, but the safety lock was fastened and she struggled with it for a minute. Mathias patiently sat and watched her. Glancing up at him after a minute, she found him smiling at her yet he stayed still in the chair. Finally, Jack said, “Mathias, take the accursed thing off her now. The doctor has other patients to attend.”Mathias waited for her to make the first move. Jack took a step towards her. She held her arm out to Mathias. “Are you sure, Fräulein Regina?” Mathias said. “It is better than the alternative. Please give it to me when you take it off,” she said. Mathias reached out, pulling her arm to rest on his oversized knee. His pants were pulled taught across his leg and showed the bulge of his thigh muscles. Big hands worked deftly at the delicate clasp and he had it off in seconds. Before she could reach for it Jack snatched it from Mathias and put it in his pocket. “Give that to me!” Ronnie said standing up and brushing past Mathias.Mathias grabbed her shoulders from behind and said, “Fräulein Regina, be so good as to let Herr Viggams finish his treatment. Please, fräulein, it is in your own best interest.” He turned her around to the bed before pushing her gently down. He seemed enormously tall from her sitting position. “Regina Elizabeth Ingram, I command you to allow Dr. Wiggams to complete his medical ministrations.” Jack shook his finger in her face while trying to be calm. Mathias put himself between Jack and Ronnie. “I have utter confidence that Fräulein Regina will be an obedient patient. Vill you not? Fräulein Regina,” he said in a softer tone, and then whispered, “Please sit still, for if you resist, I believe zat Jack vill not be so gentle with you.” She met his steely look, wanting to listen to him, but the stakes were very high for her as well. The watch was still in Jack’s pocket, only a few steps away. She took a deep breath, hardening her expression. He mouthed “Please,” again and she melted. He was right, she wasn’t going to get out of this with Jack fuming a few feet away. At least Mathias was there to intervene. He seemed to have a calming effect on Jack. Ronnie eyed Jack. How was she going to get the watch back? He gave her an angry look and she turned her attention to Mathias who smiled at her and patted her hand. “Do let Viggams assist you mit your humors,” Mathias said. She wanted to jump up and grab the watch out of Jack’s pocket, but that would get her nowhere. Instead she tried to tamp down the anger and let these men get their way, for now.

Indie Spotlight: Richard Cezar
Richard CezarI’ve been fascinated by the topic of artificial intelligence, as well as the meteoric rise in technology, over the past few decades. Apparently unrelated, are my concerns about how worldwide terrorism has given birth to, seemingly, broad-based mistrust of our neighbors and our leadership. Add to the soup, the global migration of financial assets to the upper one or two percent of society. Stir briskly, while seasoning with greed and arrogance, and you have all the fixings for my most recent novel, “In The Robes of God” (I’m in the process of writing the second book in the series.)

Morium: The Movie?
I’m going to write this post from the hip. Fresh as it comes out of my mind. No editing, just thoughts as they flow out.
When I sat down to write Morium, and Dark Horizons, I wrote it not only to tell a compelling story with a strong moral basis, but also craft it enough to where it could be suitable for adaptation to script. I played out the scenes in my head as if I were watching them on the big screen. To let you in on a secret, if I was alone, I would actually act out the scene. Silly? Perhaps. But it allowed me to get a better feeling on what I wanted to accomplish for the particular part. Anyway, I’m going off the path. Two months ago I submitted Morium to producer Birgitta S. Thorsen. I waited with anticipation on her verdict whether or not to take on Morium. After reading the book, she contacted me letting it be known that Morium had movie written all over it. She passed the book along to a Hollywood screenwriter (whose name shall remain anonymous until the script is written). Needless to say, I was happier than a kid on Christmas morning. Not only because I feel that Morium, and the final two books, have such a big social meaning behind them, but more importantly, the security it could possibly provide for my family if it were to make it the screen. And that is what matters the most to me.
Flash forward to two weeks ago. Birgitta informed me that the screenwriter had finished reading Morium and agreed to write the first draft of the script. After completing the necessary steps to make sure Morium is secured only to me, I now wait for the Library of Congress and the dreaded snail mail to bring the final confirmation of the official copyrights.
So, this is where Morium is at. Its a very long process and being a person with little to no patience, it will be a nerve racking ride till it reaches its conclusion. Whether it be bad or good, I know my foot is in the door and my foot is keeping that door open. I will continue to post updates as I get them to keep fans of Morium up to date.

Indie Spotlight: Paul Zunckel
Paul ZunckelPaul Zunckel was born in 1957 in Zimbabwe, then known as Rhodesia. His family moved to South Africa in 1966, where he completed his schooling at Kingsway Senior High School in Amanzimtoti. He did his two years National service in the South African Defense Force as an Ops Medic, wanting to follow his heart and study medicine, but life got in the way.Paul was employed in Air Traffic Control for twenty years, and has been involved in Management positions for over twenty-five years. He has a Human Resource Management Diploma, and is an accredited Facilitator. He started to write full time in August 2014, about something that is close to his heart... Africa. The mysteries, the superstitions, and all the beauty and treachery of the land. He holds his wife responsible for the road he is now traveling, as she was the driving force behind him in his Debut novel, Blood Moon over Africa. Since then, the stories line up to be told.Paul loves to write as it takes him into another world, and he enjoys the reaction that he receives from readers.Apart from writing novels, he also plays the guitar and writes his own material, although he is unable to read music. Music forms a big part of his life, and he can lay claim to having cut one CD, although he does say, “I’m too old to be an idol.”He has two children from a previous marriage, and has been married to Lucie the love of his life for the last fourteen years. Paul and his family live in the Eastern Cape, South Africa along with man’s best friend, a cross Alsatian/Lab who answers to the name “Pooch” and is at his feet every time he sits down to write and will not move until “his human” is finished and types The End.
When I write it is almost as if a tap is turned on in my head and the words just flow. It has been like that for every novel that I have written so far…my characters control the story, they talk to me and I just follow their lead. Mask of Deceit is a love story; it is about a lost love. It is also a story of revenge.“I’ve read Paul Zunckel’s Blood Moon Trilogy, and The Devil in Eden. Mask of Deceit is different from those but just as satisfying. His descriptive phrasing drew me right into the scenes all while enjoying the edge of my seat, escalating heartbeat kind of story he has written here!Frank Herndon
“Mr. Zunckel has taken a great leap in his writing this time around. Instead of writing mostly from a male point of view he has delved into the inner workings of the female mind as she has encountered great loss and tragedy. This is a very dark and powerful story. It is not easy for some to write about personal feelings, and for a gentlemen to capture how a traumatized woman would feel, is truly an amazing feat. Mr. Zunckel has done just that with this story. All around I would give this a 5 star review. Well done Paul capturing the inner workings of the female mind.”Review by Angel C Ernst.
