Interview with paranormal romance author Ariel Marie

Today I had the pleasure to talking to paranormal romance author, Ariel Marie. Her newest book, Emely's Destiny comes out on Saturday.
Tell my readers a little about yourself.I'm Ariel Marie and I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. I tend to dabble in paranormal romance that is filled with lots of steamy romance and action. Personally, I love stories that are fast paced, paranormal and action and that's what you will get from my books.
So you like to add a little bit of everything in your books.Yes I do. I love keeping my readers on their toes. I don't want readers to be able to predict where I'm going with a book. I just love when I hear that they can not put my books down.
What's your favorite part to write? The romance or the action? It's hard to tell. I love writing about two characters falling in love. i love sharing the emotion between the two. When the action happens in my books, most time, the villain is due for an ass kicking and it is so fun writing the fighting scene and letting the hero win ;) LOL.
How did you come up with the idea for your first book?My first book was Power of the Fae. I tend to daydream alot on the ride home from work, especially when I'm stuck in traffic and I was thinking about a Fae Princess who was a kick ass warrior who had to save the world. Before I knew it, I made it home and began writing the idea down and Power of the Fae was born!
Sitting in traffic is usually when ideas start to flow, lol.Yes!! Music blaring and daydreaming in traffic, lol. Music helps my imagination take off too. Alot of my writing happens while listening to music.
What do you listen to when you write? It depends on a scene I want to write. If I'm doing a steamy scene, I'll play R &B love songs.... if I'm doing a fast action scene, then I'll do listen to rap....I'm not really a rap fan, but there are some songs that will help me channel the action sequence that I need to write about. I listen to a lot of music so it just depends on the mood I'm in. Sometimes I'll just let my Apple Music play random playlist and dive right in my books.
When you get wrapped up in the music and writing, what's the longest writing session you've had?Oh, my. I usually take advantage when my kids are gone from the house and once wrote for 3 hours and was able to put away almost 5,000 words!
Was that with the help of coffee? That day tea. I have a weird routine, when I'm at work I'm addicted to coffee but when I'm home it's tea, lol. And sometimes I'll drink a Monster too when I feel myself crashing.
What is your writing routine? When I have an idea and about to start a WIP, I tend to plan a few things first. I go through and name the characters, plan where they are from, write a background story, do a family tree for each person. Then I write down key points that I want to happen. Then I begin to write and see where the story will take me. I do a lot of my writing in the evenings during the week and on the weekends since I have a full time job as a RN.
Tell us about your latest book? My latest book, Emely's Destiny will be releasing on 8/20. This book was written because of the response that I received from the first book in the series Summer's Destiny. Summer's Destiny was a book that I had written with the plan to make it perma free to gain new readers. Boy did that take off. I had so many people emailing me, messaging me on Facebook and practically begging in their reviews for another book. So Emely's Destiny was born!! This series is based on a vampire race who was being ran over by the humans.... a different spin. In this series it is the humans who are trying to annihilate the vampires and have attacked them and put the vampires on the run. So Emely's Destiny continues where Summer's Destiny left off but with different characters. It's a steamy erotic vampire novella that is filled with action and romance.
Vampires is a very popular genre today, what makes you book stand out against the others? I try to make my vampires be more humane. They are not just animals that suck blood but have families, loved ones and fight for the greater good, be it for just vampires or for the entire world. I have another series of vampires called the Dark Shadows and I think people really loved them because of how they fight to save everyone. It follows a family of vampires and each book is about a different member of the family. So you really see the world of a vampire in that series.
To some indie authors, marketing is the biggest pain in the ass. Would you agree with that?It can be. It takes about as much time as actually writing the book. I sit and write out a plan so that I can make sure I take advantage of all my resources and networking to help get the word out about my releases!
Who are your influences in writing?I'm a big romance junkie so who influenced me to follow my dreams into romance books would have to be Amelia Hutchins, Cynthia Eden, Lana Grayson and Anna Hackett.
Are you a Cavaliers fan?Hell yeah!! I was All In this season, lol. I was so bummed that this year I couldn't afford to go to a playoff game, but we watched them all and when they won, we ordered shirts for the entire family ;) Even my young ones love the CAVS, lol.
When LeBron left for Miami, did you think he would be back?I thought about it in the back of my mind, but I wasn't sure how the city would respond. We were hurt. But since he's came back, he's made it up to the city.
If you could meet one vampire, who would it be?Such a hard question.....but I would pick Selene from Underworld!! I have lost count of how many times I have watched that movie!
Thank you Ariel for taking time to be with us today. Best of luck with your new release.
