“His kiss burned hotter, coaxed harder than it had done earlier and she responded in kind. Her arms crept higher. Up and up again, she allowed her fingers to wander, over the broad expanse of his chest and along the strong and solid column of his neck. She fulfilled the fantasies of a thousand nights when she slid her fingers home—into the thick, silken strands of his hair.”

“Look what just happened,’ she said softly, allowing laughter to leak into her words. ‘You just shared something of yourself—and the world did not end. Nor did I fall hopelessly at your feet.’
‘Why do you bother, then?’ he asked hoarsely.
She stroked a hand in his hair. ‘Because I want you to know that it is possible.”

“She blinked away memories to find him staring at her with a mix of concern and horror on his face.
Chloe shivered. ‘Why do you look at me like that?’
‘Because you scare the hell out of me.’
She rather liked the sound of that.”

“He half-turned in his seat and her breath caught. He was laughing.
And she was falling, into dark eyes brightened with amusement and a handsome face transformed by wry humor. What a difference it made in him. He'd been compelling before. He made her blood heat now.”

Deb Marlowe is one of my favorite authors. My favorite quote from Deb Marlowe comes from her Regency romance short story "A Slight Miscalculation" in which Jane is a young lady who met the young astronomer and viscount Worthe when she corrected his mathematical calculations. Later, Worthe says to Jane, "I'm afraid I've made a couple more miscalculations...I miscalculated how important it is that I see these stars every morning when I awake."'She frowned. "Stars?"'
'He grinned. "The constellation Andromeda. The princess, in fact, etched finely in freckles across your lovely nose and cheeks....Yes...There is also another worrisome number plaguing me, almost beyond calculation...It's the sheer number of hours, days, months and years I would be miserable without you."' ---from "A Slight Miscalculation" by Deb Marlowe
So romantic!
