I can normally see the problem (it becomes clearer by moving away from the page) and I can soon find a way through. Sometimes I have some resistance at taking the necessary action to fix the problem, but then so would you if someone told you that they loved your skyscraper, but it would be better if it were six feet to the left and rotated 45 degrees. While moving the skyscraper sometimes needs to be done, I prefer to spend extra time in the planning stages to avoid that kind of mishap.(less)

The act of writing, I think, is the best thing about being a writer. Dean Clayton Edwards, The Hollow Places

“Tree

It is foolish
to let a young redwood
grow next to a house.

Even in this
one lifetime,
you will have to choose.

That great calm being,
this clutter of soup pots and books--

Already the first branch-tips brush at the window.
Softly, calmly, immensity taps at your life.”
jane hirshfield

“Everything has two endings-
a horse, a piece of string, a phone call.

Before a life, air.
And after.

As silence is not silence, but a limit of hearing.”
Jane Hirshfield, Come, Thief: Poems
